Chapter 1: The Wave

Chapter 1: The Wave

My day started off like any other Friday. I got up, had a quick breakfast, sat down to play video games for three hours, then threw on my uniform and went to work. Unarmed security work at the Millhaven mall wasn't pretty by any stretch of the imagination, mainly because we couldn't actually do anything. We aren't allowed to chase, not allowed to detain, restrain, or interfere with whatever the troublemaker is doing. All we could do was give verbal commands, which were always ignored. It's infuriating sometimes, having to just watch the eaves walk away with Goods. Yes walk, most of the time, they knew that even walking the cops would not be there in time to catch them. So they always walked out, like they were doing right now. I followed them to their car and to my surprise managed to get a license plate. The dumbasses had left it on their car, making everyone else's life easier at least. Then I went back to see the vendor who had been robbed. My boss, Frank, was already there taking a report, at least one of us would have to write up an incident report on this before we leave tonight.

Hey Jackie, those two leave the property I take it? Frank asks me.Yep, they were nice enough to leave the license plate on this time 2. tell me when you're ready for it. I say.

“Save it for your report later, I got to finish  up here so you need to finish the door check round.” Frank says.

“Oh joy, what point did you leave off at?”

“S2, usual clockwise rotation.”

“Alright thanks.”

And with that I make my way down to the southern Hall oh, millhaven mall is built like an upside-down star. Every 3 hours someone has to check all the back hallways to make sure all the doors are secure. This came about in response to a rash of stockroom thefts because some dumb ass left a door propped open. We usually start in the northeastern Hall and work our way around the building clockwise. So since Frank is dealing with the tenant, I get to pick up where he left off. It's not that bad just an hour ish of walking and pushing/pulling on Doors to make sure they are secure. When I get back to the little 10 x 12 un air condition room we call an office, Frank is already there finishing up his report.

“Got that license plate?” He asks.

“EXO1-4435. One was five foot six wearing all black, other was 6 ft wearing all white” I say.

“Sounds about right, county will probably find them eventually, assuming the plate isn't stolen.”

“Around here who knows, we got everything from Criminal masterminds to dumbshit's who stare straight at the camera and everything in between.” I say.

“True that, so how class is going with all the crazy of the holidays?”

“Bad, my particle physics professor thanks giving gift to us was a surprise five page review on why decade-old theories are worse.”

“Sounds fun, at least you didn't have to deal with a dude wanking it in the food court.”

“What the hell, that's a new one! How did that go over?”

“County had to tackle and cuff em, also indefinitely trespassed him from the property but I don't think we would see him again anytime soon anyway.”

Frank paused for a bit, so I gestured for him to elaborate, thankfully he obliged.

“Dude seem really out of it, wouldn't be surprised if he ended up in a loony bin instead of charged.”

I nodded my head in understanding, made some sense, if only barely. I turned my attention to the camera monitors and started to watch the cams for any unusual activity. All seemed normal for a few minutes, until something flashed onto the Western entrance two camera. Rainbowwave search past the doors and over the camera, as quickly as it appeared it was going down the hall, seeming to face the reality itself as it traveled past several more camps through the building. I jumped out of my seat, startled by the new event.

“Frank get up! Something is …!”

That's all I got out before my vision flashed rainbow then the world went black.
