Book 1: Chapter 2- Adjusting

Nate couldn’t tell if he was dreaming or not. Everything felt extremely real, he could feel things, he could relieve himself. Even as a baby, Nate was very clearly aware of everything. Being unable to do anything in such a small body he made sure to keep a close eye on his surroundings.

It had been around one week since Nate was born under a new name and in a new world. His new name was Marc Citron. He had an elder brother who was four by the name of Archibald, he had light brown hair and dark grey eyes. The kid also had a rough and annoying attitude just like any other four year old would. Nate also had two loving parents named Kathrine and Adam. Kathrine had dark blue hair and black eyes with fair skin while Adam had rough brown hair and green eyes, he had multiple cuts on his skin and Nate assumed it was from his job or lifestyle. Nate noticed how tight nit the family was. Kathrine would spend multiple hours every day cooking, cleaning and looking after her children while Adam spent his time at work bringing back money and doing regular chores around the house. What Nate did notice that was strange, was the money that Adam brought back from work and the job that he did.

What type of money is this?” Nate thought as he eyed a coin on the table. To Nate it didn’t look anything like a pound coin or a quarter. Besides the strange money, Nate noticed that his father would leave very early in the morning wearing armour and carrying a sword.

“Who the hell wears armour in this day and age? Where in the hell even am I?” Nate thought.

He slumped his heavy baby head back onto his small pillow and came to a conclusion. He knew now for sure that he had been transported to a different world in the body of a baby. He had seen this before in those anime that he watched and novels that he read at home. The idea did linger in his mind over the past week but he was looking for clues that maybe he was still on Earth. What Nate did question, was the possibility of something like this even happening. To him, it was impossible but I guess everything around him spoke for itself. He looked up at the ceiling and smirked.

“Now I don’t have to deal with having a crummy job or getting my ass kicked everyday. This is awesome. But what about my mom…OH SHIT MY DATE! Tiana..” he thought sadly.

The one person from his life that accepted Nate was now gone. There was probably no way to see her again and it had all been ruined by this weird reincarnation event.

Suddenly, a voice in his head spoke.

“I wouldn’t say that she accepted you.” The voice said.

“What? Who said that?” Nate thought.

Everything went pitch black and Nate could see a figure in front of him. A female figure most likely.

“I am your spirit Marc.” The voice said.

“What did you mean she didn’t accept me.” Nate asked

“When you died in your sleep, you acquired me, a spirit. Spirits are very rare in this world but since you came from another you must have somehow got me to latch onto you while you were being transported here. Once I became your spirit something strange happened. I could see all your experiences. Your boring morning routine, the bullies sticking your head down the grimy school bathroom, and you getting the courage to ask Tiana out.” The voice said mockingly.

Nate noticed the voice was definitely female but what he didn’t understand was why he was able to get a spirit to latch onto his soul when he died in his sleep. The spirit kept speaking.

“Turns out that Tiana was just another popular girl from your school who wanted to mess with the bullied nerd a little. I’m sure you heard her speaking behind your back multiple times.”

Nate was a little shocked but accepted it all the same. He must have instinctively been pushing those negative thoughts of Tiana away because he liked her so much. He thought to himself and realised something.

“Maybe she did mess with me. I guess I’m starting to remember a little of what she would say behind my back but I don’t get how that matters anymore. Am I not, dead in that world? Now I really have nothing to lose.” Nate said a little relieved.

“Interesting.” the spirit thought.

“THAT’S RIGHT MARC! Take on your new name and live this life better than your last. I’ll be watching.” The voice slowly faded away and Marc opened his eyes, still in his small baby body.

He was dead set now. Besides his rather uncaring mother in his past life, Nate had nothing left on Earth and nothing to lose there. It was time to take on his new name and learn about this new world. Even if it was a dream, he wanted to enjoy it.
