Chapter 8: Test

Chapter 8: Test

The next morning I woke up, ate a bit of breakfast and made my way out to Jays. Griz was still sleeping when I left and I wasn’t exactly sure if I should wake her or not.....Ya maybe not. I tried that before and she almost killed me, she thought I was trying to peep on her while she was sleeping. She liked to sleep in the nude and at the time I didn’t I know, I just walked in and woke her up. She didn’t accept my immediate apologies, needless to say she beat me almost as bad as Connie did. It was almost worth it to see her naked body though, a big smile was plastered on my face as I walked into the armory reminiscing on that morning.

“Morning Hiro, what’s the big smile for?” Jay said.

“Oh...good morning Jay....nothing I was just lost in thought on the way here.” I replied with the image of Griz nude still in my head. “Jay do you have any type of throwing weapons available?”

“I sure do, one sec.” He reached for a box and pulled out an assortment of items. Some looked like ninja stars. Some were throwing axes there were a couple that look like some sort of needle, I vaguely remember seeing something like that in anime’s from earth. Almost like throwing needles or something. My eyes fell on some items that resembled a throwing knife or kunai from that you would see in ninja movies or shows. “How many of those do you have?” I asked while pointing at the kunai.

“I have 10 of them. Each one for 15 vels or all of them for 120 vel.” Jay said while examining them himself. “I bought these years ago thinking people would want them but no one used any throwing weapons here, so they’ve been sitting here collecting dust.” He was wiping them down with a rag and checking the edges to see if their knives edge was still there. “I’ll take them.” I said.

“Ok, give me a couple minutes to sharpen them up for you.” He said while walking into the back room. After about 10 minutes Jay came back and handed me the kunai looking knives. The edges were sharp to the touch and they looked awesome. They were each made from one solid piece of iron, with sharp edges of both sides in and elongated triangle that had more length than width. The handles of them had an engraved texture grip on them and the bottoms of them were flat. The metal had a black color on it that reflected the sun when held up. “Perfect!” I said I handed Jay the 120 vels and promptly made my way to the training area. No was there yet, not even Darl. I walked over to one of the wooden dummies, pulled out six of the knives and scanned them.

Iron throwing knife:

Damage: 9

Can be used to throw at targets or used as a small melee weapon.

I took my belt off and used electro magnet on it. I gave it a positive charge then put it back on. I grabbed one of the six knives and used the skill and gave it a negative charge. The knife instantly flew to the belt with a clang sound. Ok this is going good I thought to myself. I pulled the knife from my belt and tried to control the flow of electricity. I held the knife out in front of me at arms length and imagined a knob being turned from 10 down to 3. The knife sort of floated in the air it bobbed up and down. The magnet took a lot of concentration to maintain the 3 out of 10 rating. I’ll get used to it, I thought. I picked up another and repeated the same. Then another until I had the 6th knife in my hand. A window popped up

Limit exceeded:

Oh yeah my belt counts as one as well. I put the last knife away and had them all floating in front of me. I concentrated and pointed them all at the dummy. I quickly reversed the polarity of my belt and they flew towards the dummy. They bounced off and hit the floor with clinging sound of metal hitting metal. Well that didn’t work. I said to myself.

I picked up oneknife repeated the process of levitating it and mentally directing it towards the dummy. Except this time I decided to punch the back of it while simultaneously switching polarities of my belt. I took a couple of practice swings in the air, my body still ached a bit but it was bearable. I put my fists up, centered my body and slammed my right fist into the back of the knife in a flash. The knife was sent flying at a blinding speed and penetrated the wooden dummy up to the the middle of the handle. I then switch the polarity of my belt and the knife dislodged itself and quickly flashed back to my belt. I tried it again with the same outcome. I then added the other four knives into the mix and was practicing hitting them and switching the polarity of my belt but it wasn’t working how I picture it in my head. Maybe I need to switch the polarity of the knives individually. The belt works good with one knife but with multiple, it throws everything out of balance. So I began pummeling the knives and recalling them individually. As I got used to the feeling of switching polarities and hitting the blade simultaneously I started recalling the flying kunai as fast as I would hit and kick. The kunai were flying at a blistering speed each one impacting with a gnarled crack into the wooden dummy and then ripping itself out and sending chunks of wood flying out. At the end of my practice I was channeling my stamina in a flurry of punches and kicks each one hitting with a solid crack and the sound of electrical pops with each connected hit.

I made my gun! I finally did it, of course it’s not really a gun and there’s not really a trigger.....and there’s not really any gunpowder.......ya I don’t have a gun......but, I do have an awesome new ranged skill to help in battles. I have a feeling I’m going to need it. I thought it was weird that I didn’t receive any type of skills from actually launching the kunai looking knives. I guess punching and kicking throwing blades isn’t really a skill. I decided to lay down on the grass for a bit to recover my stamina and mana. Looking up at the clouds in the sky my mind started to wander. I can’t believe I’m in a new world. It’s seems so long ago I was on earth, but at the same time it feels like it was yesterday. I wonder if time moves the same on this world? how many years has it been on earth since I’ve been gone? I started to doze off while enjoying the sun light bathing my skin. “Hiro!” A woman’s voice sounded in the distance. It woke me up from the half sleep I was about to enter. I quickly got to my feet and seen Griz walking towards me. She had Carla on her side. I started to get embarrassed my face flushed red. Crap! Did I look like a loser just laying there? I wasn’t sure what to do. I acted in the most natural way I knew how. I rested one elbow on the dummy, leaned into it and said “yo.....what’s up.” What the hell is wrong with me! I yelled at myself internally.

Griz and Carla made their way to me, Griz outfitted in her normal leather armor and bow. Surprisingly Carla wasn’t in her robe that I seen her in yesterday, she was I. Some fitted tight leather legging and a relatively tight leather top on, the leather was a reddish color that looked like the color of worn dirty bricks. It had a shine to it though that looks like it was recently treated with some sort of coating. It glistened in the sun. Her red crimson hair was put up in a ponytail and she had a wooden staff with her.

“You ready to spar Hiro?” Said Griz with a smile. I repositioned myself away from the dummy. In the best “cool guy” voice I could muster I said. “Pfff come on, like you could take me.”

“Not me” Griz said with a menacing smirk. “Carla here wants to test you. I asked her if she wanted to join us since we are going to be leaving town soon. She said she’ll only come with us if your strong enough.” Carla stepped forward. “Yes Griz informed me that you would like me to accompany you but I need to know you can handle yourself.” She said while staring deep into my eyes as if searching for some sort of answer. “You sure you want to do this, I mean I don’t want to hurt you.” I said with worry in my voice. “Don’t worry about me, just prepare yourself.” She said. Carla spun her staff around in one hand and planted it into the ground.

“Ok just remember that you asked for it.” I said with a touch of cockiness in my voice. I was trying to impress her but wasn’t sure if it was working. She smiled at me. Knelt to the ground, placed one hand and mutter some inaudible spell. A green circle appeared on the ground and mana started to swirl above it like some sort of controlled tornado. A huge brown muscular hand came out of the swirling mana, followed by the rest of the body. It looked like some sort of gorilla mixed with a goblin. The legs were thick and full of muscle but the arms were easily 2 times the length of the legs with rope like veins. It had unkept green hair, a big nose with warts on it and a nastily looking mouth. Small tusks on each side jutting up from its lower jaw, one was slightly longer than the other.Yellow sunken in eyes surrounded by dark circles. The eyes seemed to glow the dar skin surrounding it.

“This is Elxor” Carla said. He is my summoned troll. “Elxor.....attack” she pointed at me and the troll charged. It sounded like a gorilla running through the forest grunting and pounding with each step towards me. It’s reached its hand out as it closed the distance. I flash stepped behind it as its hand was about to close around my face. I hit it with 4 lightning Impacts to the lower back as it bent backwards his face was pointed towards the sky, I threw and axe kick on its face and dropped him into ground with a thunderous clap that echoed through the town. The troll was out. His body faded and it looks like he returned to Carla.

Carla immediately chanted another spell and this time two new summons came, theywere some sort of lizard looking monster dawned in a spear and shield. The other was, clad in almost the same equipment as Griz. They both had brown reptile colored scales with a white underbelly. The enough protruded 6 inches from the head and the tongues flickered in the air. They eyes were small and had the cat like slitted pupil. They stood upright as the tails snapped in the wind.“These are my dragon kin that I subjugated. I’m interested to see how you fare against them.” The bow wielder sprang back and shot 3 arrows in rapid succession, I barley had time to move, I jumped back and before I knew It the spear wielder was right In front of me. The shield slammed into my face and I was sent rolling back. I scrambled to my feet and again was met with an arrow struck in the ground a couple inches from my feet. I looked down at the arrow and then looked up, the spearman was already on me ready to strike. I flash stepped behind him and was about to hit when an arrow grazed my right shoulder and drew blood. “Oh crap she serious.” I thought to myself. I channeled my stamina I planted a kick in the spearman’s back expecting it to be sent flying, it stumbled a couple inches but then immediately turned around and swung its spear in a wide arc. I used my muscle harden skill and braced for impact. The spears wooden shaft struck me and sent a horrible stinging sensation on par with getting slapped by a whip. It stung really bad. I moved in close and hit it with a flurry of electricity filled hits to the body. It mouth opened and rows of sharp teeth were unsheathed as it tried to close its jaws around my shoulder but IIntercepted it with an uppercut. It’s jaw slammed shut and blood dripped from with lips. It groaned in pain and I gave a powerful right cross to the throat. It hissed as and stepped back, grabbing at its throat, arrows whizzed passed me. I turned around looking for the source of the arrows. I seen the bowman perched in a tree about 30 yards away. “Time to test the new skill.”

I threw out my kunai and started to hit them towards the tree that the lizard kin was shooting from. Electrical cracks were booming through the air as the blades were making a bee line towards the tree. Each one accompanied with the sound of wood splitting as they made contact with the tree. The bowman was fast, it was able to dodge and jump from branch to branch while maintaining its firing speed. The spearman regained its composure and joined the fight. It charged me, shield held in front while spear was braced right beside it. I was able to to knock the spear of its coarse but then collided with the shield again. Arrows still flew towards me like an unrelenting hail storm. I dodged them by the skin of my teeth. Sent a roundhouse kick at the spearman impacting its shield. The kunai were already making their way back to me. The first one arrived, I stepped back and slammed my fist into the back of the knife. It was sent flying towards the spear man, Imbedding itself in the shield. I Turned and immediately sent the other 4 towards the archer. He dodged but one of the knives mad contact with its ankle. That should at least slow him down. I thought to myself.

I recalled the kunai, the one that was in the shield ripped out with the sound of metalsing torn. Wooden crunches came from behind. I sent two more blades towards the shield bearing lizard Kin. He dodged one and the other struck the shield again. Crap! This is going nowhere. I need to end this soon. I flash stepped into the spearman’s Gaurd crouched and gave him the full impact of an uppercut to the gut. His eyes bulged, I sensed that arrow were on its way, while the lizard kin was occupied with the pain in its stomach, I grabbed the shield and block the incoming arrows. Four of them hit the shield. One struck my thigh. I bellowed a roar from the pain. Up until now I haven’t really been injured besides minor scrapes and cut. The only big injury was from Connie and I was asleep through the most painful part of it. Being injured....hurt a lot. The warmth of the blood flowing out of my leg. The stinging of the metal coming into contact with my muscles and tendons.

Adrenaline started pumping through my veins, my vision started to turn red as I was losing myself to the rage that was simmering inside of me. I felt this type of rage before but it was in my dream. My muscles bulged and I felt the high octane fuel that was adrenaline coursing through my veins. My stamina started draining at 25 point per second. The pain went away everything was numb. My face felt hot and my extremities felt cold. I threw the shield and turned to the spearman. He was already recovered from the gut punch. He readied his spear. Everything was moving slow, I stepped towards him and I seen the faint sign of fear in his reptile like eyes. He was about to take a step back. I reached for the spear grasped it and pulled it in. The reptile jerked towards me and I hit him with another gut punch. It lurched forward and was quickly met with my knee to the face. The head snapped backwards. I followed up with my fists raised high above its head, fingers laced together in a hammer made of fingers and hands fueled by adrenaline. I came down with the fury of the gods. A loud thunderous boom impacted the top of its head. It slammed to the ground and cracked the hardened dirt below it. 50 stamina points down. I looked for the arrow slinging lizard, it was moving between trees, jumping from branch to branch. It stopped and shot 3 arrows at me. They were moving slow, a little to slow. I sidestepped them and grabbed the last one mid flight, the lizard stopped and looked at me carefully.

I recalled my blades, a split second later they were all in front of me. I slammed fists and feet into each of them. Cracks and then booms that was similar to Grizs lighting arrows. I began to run towards the lizard moving at full clip, each step cracked the ground below and the sound of electricity snapping accompanied it. I was gained speed. The blades struck the tree the lizard kin was in, it barley managed to dodge them. I quickly recalled and the knives, they returned keeping pace with my running. I launched them again while running but this time I jumped after impacting the last one. I flew through the air, and landed on the tree the lizard was in. I flash stepped to him. It jumped but I caught it by the ankle. 200 stamina down, I grasped and squeezing its calf and felt the bones and muscles melt away like butter in a hot pan as my grip clamped down. Its ankle was cooking with the heat generated from my electricity. The lizard hissed and tried to snap at me with its jaws. I kicked its head and the jaw broke. Rage was still filling me. I wanted to kill this insect with everything I had, I felt my body filling with electricity. The hairs on my body stood and faint blue sparks was able to be seen in my pupils. I held the insect in front of me. It was hanging upside down, it’s leg being cooked and it’s jaw broken, fear was in its eyes. I swung with my free hand. I gave it everything I had. The eyes of the reptile closed, it didn’t want to see, it braced for impact.

My fist didn’t connect with anything. My arm phased through some sort of green mist. In an enraged frenzy I looked around for the source. My eyes fell on Carla and immediately the storm that was unshackled inside of me started to fade. The ocean in me that moved like the tides in a storm began to dwindle, the rogue waves of my anger turned to nothing but a splash of water.I realized what had happened. My anger took hold and nearly killed these two summons of Carla. The injury from where the arrow struck on my leg was closed. It didn’t heal though, more like scarred. It was almost as if the hole was welded shut from my electricity. I got down from the tree and walked up to the two women. Griz was clapping “wow Hiro I didn’t know you were capable of fighting like that. You should do that more often.” Griz said.

“You fared well against my summons, you went a bit overboard on them but they were ordered to kill. Now for the final test, if you pass this one I will join your group.” Carla said. She had a flirtatious smile on her face. I was still in shock from the fight and what I did. I don’t think they realized I lost control of my emotions. I think it’s better that it stays that way for now. With an uneasy response I said. “Ok so what’s the last test?” Carla looked at Griz and then stepped forward. “I will be fighting you.” Carla said.
