Chapter 2

A year has passed since I got reincarnated.

[Happy Birthday Felix Woods.]

I got 150 skill points for my 1st birthday.

My birthdate is March 23.

It took me 3 months to crawl and 9 months to walk.

Not much happened as I slept for very long periods of time every day.

It also took me some time to accept my new reality. Even though I was ecstatic to be reincarnated in another world, I still miss my old family and friends.

Based on my observation while being carried around, the house has two floors and a basement. It is made of wood and cement.

I have explored the first and second floor while the basement remains unexplored because they do not allow me to enter it.

I once tried to follow my grandmother into the stairs leading to the basement, but she stopped me from going down.

It got me curious of what secrets is my family hiding in the basement and I know that all my questions would be answered once I reached adulthood.

There are five rooms on each floor. The first floor comprises a living room, kitchen, library, dining room, grandma’s room, and two staircases.

We have a grand clock in the living room. It has 18 numbers instead of 12.

There are 60 days on the calendar and there are 10 days per week.

The names of the days are different too, which are: Crabday, Potatoday, Cheeseday, Penguinday, Duckday, Cabbageday, Bananaday, Chickenday, Catday, and Rabbitday.

The names of the months and seasons are still the same.

While the second floor has two empty rooms, a storage room, my room, and my parent’s bedroom. The bathroom and laundry room are located in the backyard.

We have a vast front yard surrounded by a wooden fence. It is where mom grows fruits, spices, vegetables, potatoes and grains to eat later. She also makes fertilizer using leftover kitchen scraps, sawdust, animal manure, and grass clippings in the compost pit. Mom never uses pesticide and herbicide. She also takes care of honey beehives.

The backyard is incredibly spacious. It is where father practices his sword skills and where we grow chickens, cows, sheep, goats and pigs.

We also have a peculiar banana tree in the front yard. It has a black trunk and red leaves. It constantly emits an intense dark aura as if a demon lord is inhabiting it.

Despite its aura and appearance, the fruit it yields is safe and delicious. The fruit has a black peel, and the inside is bright red.

It produces banana no matter what the season is.

We once tried to trade it for meat, but the villagers rejected it. When that did not work, we tried to sell it to a nearby drow village and got rejected again.

*knock* *knock*

Grandma entered my room.

“Did you just wake up?”

I nodded.

She picked me up and went to a nearby two-storey house.

*knock* *knock*

A middle-aged man with dark brown hair opened the door.

He gave a polite smile and said, ”Come inside.”

Grandma and I entered the middle-aged man’s house.

She left me in a nearby room with a small girl around my age and we played with a small brown ball while they chat in the living room.

The living room has 5 sectional sofas, a large coffee table, numerous paintings on the wall, and potted plants.

This room has different types of toys and plushies inside it.

Grandma sat on the sofa while the old man sat opposite to her.

“I haven’t seen you for a decade. The last time I saw you was at your husband’s funeral, who died from his injuries after battling a demon lord inside a dungeon. Is that your grandson who is now playing with my granddaughter?,” he said.

“Good to see you, too, old friend. Yes, that is my grandson. Time flies so fast it felt like yesterday when we were exploring dungeons with our adventurer’s party,” she replied.

“Have you considered moving back to Chester City?”

“I got a letter from one of my ancestors that ordered us to move back to Chester city because his best friend got reincarnated into our family. We will return to our ancestral home in district two after my grandson passes the magic capability test.”

“Who signed the letter?”

“The signature was a drawing of ten stars, so it’s easy to guess who it was since he is very famous.”

“Does your grandson know about the ten stars swordmanship style?”

“In the letter, he claimed my grandson was the one who created it and their personality is somewhat identical. It gave me an insight on what to expect from Felix’s future behaviour.”

“After all, he was infamous for his stupid antics. Still, I didn’t expect that your grandson was the creator of that famous sword style.”

“Do they also live here?”

“Yeah, they moved in almost the same time as my family did.”

“I see.”

“Can you tell me how you lived for the past decade after we parted ways?”

“Sure.”

She told him everything about how they went under the radar, used false identities and travelling from city to city to avoid getting tracked by the demon lord’s minions while finishing difficult lucrative quests in order to gain more power until they settled here with her son and daughter-in-law.

“So that’s what happened to your family after we couldn’t contact you.”

A middle-aged woman with bright green hair carrying a basket full of vegetables, fruits, and meat entered his house.

“Welcome back, honey,” the middle-aged man said.

She placed the basket on the floor and hugged my grandmother.

“Scarlett, great to see you again,” she said.

“Likewise, it’s nice to see you again too, my old friend,” grandma replied.

“What snacks and drinks do you want?” she asked.

“Anything’s fine for me. For Felix, give him apple pie and milk,” grandma replied.

She picked up her basket and went to the kitchen.

“Can I invite them here to chat with us?” grandma asked.

“No problem. The more the merrier,” the middle-aged man replied.

“I have contacted them. They said that they will arrive in a few minutes,” grandma said.

“Honey, there will be more guests arriving later, so make more snacks and drinks,” the middle-aged man yelled.

“Okay hon!,” she replied.

Several minutes later, there were multiple knocks on the door.

“Here they are.”

The middle-aged man stood up and opened the door.

Four males and four females entered the living room, and they carried four male children around my age with them.

Grandma picked me up, and the middle-aged man picked up his granddaughter.

“This is my grandson Felix Woods,” grandma introduced me.

I mustered every strength I have to wave my right hand to everyone.

“He looked identical to uh, err, umm, what was his name again?” The brown-haired woman asked.

“Jasper Woods?” grandma replied.

The brown-haired woman nodded.

“They must have come from the same region in their previous life so that’s why they have a similar face,” grandma said.

“This is my granddaughter, Alice Spencer,” the middle-aged man said.

She looks very cute, and her skin is as white as snow.

Alice enthusiastically waved her hand and smiled at me.

I waved back at her.

The other kids waved their hands at her, but she ignored them.

“She looks exactly like her mom,” the grey-haired man said.

“Where’s your son and daughter-in-law?” grandma asked.

“I have two daughters-in-law. They are busy helping defend a peasant’s house from a slime invasion,” the middle-aged man replied.

“How frequent are the slime invasions now?” grandma asked.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

“Lately, the invasions are becoming more and more frequent due to an abnormal increase of imperialist slime numbers. It turns out they have been waging war against the Hapan empire for five years now,” the blonde man replied.

“Why are they waging war against Hapan?” the black-haired man asked.

“Five years ago, the Hapanese organized an expedition to the most eastern part of the Roviet permafrost, which is led by a grey marked reincarnated individual along with thousands of explorers and found the east roviet base of the imperial slime army. They attacked it to get more supplies as they were running low. The base has no defenders and all the cabbages stored there were looted. This angered the slimes and declared a full-blown war against the Hapan empire, which continues to this day,” the blonde man said.

“Who is now leading the slime invasion?” the red-haired woman asked.

“The major general problem of the armies slime is the one leading the invasion right now,” the blonde man replied.

“So Hapan is now facing the full might of the army, navy, and air force of the imperial slime military. How much destruction have they caused?” grandma asked.

“The only one standing left is Gogawa, which is the capital city of Hapan. Every other city, town, and village were virtually wiped out. Roughly 95 million Hapanese military personnel and civilians were killed in combat and another 120 million were wounded. Approximately 500 million cabbages were looted,” the blonde man replied.

I bet those Japanese and weebs who got isekai’d here assumed slimes are the weakest monsters because of how they are portrayed in games and anime. A lot of gamers were always making fun of me for having a pet slime. Now those same slimes are annihilating them lmao.

It was always odd that slimes are so weak when their potential to evolve is limitless and therefore makes them one of the strongest monsters.

“Have the Hapanese tried to sue for peace?” the brown-haired man asked.

“Yes, the Hapanese emperor sent a diplomat to discuss peace negotiations, but the slimes ignored all requests for a peace deal. Instead, they are now focusing on a major offensive to capture Gogawa and then negotiate for peace on their terms,” the blonde man replied.

“It’s only a matter of time before their eventual surrender and those slimes usually have two requests which are pay back an enormous amount of cabbage and give up all desert islands you control to reach a peace deal,” grandma said.

“Aren’t we here to have a reunion and introduce our grandchildren? Why are we discussing those slimes and their war?” the orange-haired woman asked.

“You are right. It’s my turn. So this is my grandson, Jack Rodriguez,” the brown-haired female said.

“His looks are a mix of his mother and father’s physical features,” the middle-aged man said.

Ugh, when will she finish baking the apple pies? I am already hungry.

I gently slapped grandma’s face twice, then pointed my index finger towards the kitchen.

“Are you hungry?” grandma asked.

I nodded.

Goddamnit, I still can’t speak. Whenever I try to talk, a very heavy force will appear and compress my chest while an invisible noose will tighten my throat.

“Hon, are you done making snacks?!” the middle-aged man asked.

“Yes hon, just finished baking apple pies and making ham, egg and cheese sandwiches. I need your help to carry these food trays!” she replied.

The middle-aged man stood up and went to the kitchen. He returned carrying a food tray and placed it on the large coffee table. She placed two jugs of milk, four tea pots, 11 tea cups, and 6 8 oz glass on the table.

Grandma grabbed a large slice of apple pie and placed it on a small plate.

I extended my arm to grab it but, grandma lightly tapped my arm.

“Wait Felix. It’s too hot,” she said.

She repeatedly blew air on the apple pie until it cooled down and fed me.

I wolfed down the apple pie, then she helped me drink milk and wiped my face.

“You can now continue introducing your grandchildren,” grandma said.

“Okay, so this is my grandson, Mark Jenkins,” the orange-haired woman said.

“He greatly resembles you,” the black-haired man replied.

“The only thing he did not inherit from you is temperament,” grandma chimed in.

Grandma and her friends laughed.

“My daughter and son-in-law would have a really hard time disciplining him if he inherited it,” the orange-haired woman replied.

“Who is next?” grandma asked.

“I am next. This is my grandson, Josh Vogel,” the red-haired woman said.

“He takes after his grandfather,” the brown-haired man replied.

“Of course he inherited my good looks,” the blonde man said.

Josh pouted and threw a small piece of apple pie at him.

“It looks like he does not agree with your opinion,” the middle-aged man said.

“Just give it time for him to accept the truth. I also reacted that way at first. I used to hate everyone that says I got my grandpa’s looks,” the blonde man replied.

“Oh, you are the only one left,” grandma said.

The white-haired woman nodded and said, “This is my grandson, John Dupont.”

“He got his father’s physical features,” the green-haired woman said.

“I want him to have my looks, but you can’t cheat genetics,” the white-haired woman replied.

“We got a family here who has been cheating genetics and the natural world for a very long time,” the brown-haired woman said.

“It’s not my fault. Blame the abyss instead,” grandma replied.

Grandma and her friends laughed.

“Aren’t you going to introduce us to your grandson?” the grey-haired man asked.

“Oh, right. I almost forgot,” grandma replied. “This is Alice’s grandpa, Nathan Spencer, and this is his wife, Aubrey Spencer.“

“Scarlett, introduce me next,” the white-haired woman said.

“The white-haired woman is Vanessa Dupont, and the one with blonde hair is her husband, Henry Dupont. Erm, umm, the next one is this brown-haired couple. Alfred Rodriguez and Alyssa Rodriguez. The orange-haired woman is Bianca Jenkins, and the black-haired man is her husband, Charles Jenkins. This grey-haired man is Jacob Vogel and the red-haired woman is his wife, Joanna Vogel,“ grandma said.

They all waved at me.

I waved back at them.

They all seem to wear identical rings on their index finger and the only ones who are not wearing it are me and grandma.

They continued to chat until it was getting dark.

*thud* *thud*

Nathan opened the door.

Standing outside is a slime wearing a party hat.

It spit out a newspaper and left.

“What is the latest news?” Alyssa asked.

“The Hapan empire fell. They are forced to pay 800 billion cabbages to the slimes and hand all the uninhabited islands they own. The grey marked reincarnated individual who led the expedition has been executed in public. All the slimes retreated and returned to their previous forms to celebrate their victory,” Nathan replied.

“This should also lower the frequency of the slime invasion as the number of imperialist slime goes back to normal,” Charles said.

“It’s been fun chatting with old friends. I am going to leave now since it’s getting dark, and I have to help prepare dinner,” grandma said.

Grandma picked me up, and we went home to eat dinner. She washed me before tucking me into bed and read a bedtime story titled “Crab God” to help me fall asleep.

Another year passed.

[Happy birthday Felix!]

I got an enchanted teddy bear bag. It has unlimited storage capacity.

I stored all the rewards I got from the daily check-in inside the enchanted teddy bear bag.

Got a new passive skill called ‘eye of the abyss.

Eye of the Abyss: allows the user to see in absolute darkness, see through illusions, absolute immunity from getting blinded by bright lights, see invisible things, detect magical auras, see mana, and manipulate, generate, and control absolute darkness.

It took me 4 months to talk.

Half of the wounds in my soul have healed.

My body still feels lethargic and tired most of the time.

I saw my reflection in the mirror and wondered how I kept my Asian looks and, damn, I’m handsome. I got pale white skin, brown eyes, short gray hair, short height and a slender body.

"Why do I look human is the bigger question? When my race is Maple."

[Your human form is a disguise to blend in with others and look friendly and approachable. Your shadow is your true form.]

My shadow can now move on its own and exist with no light source. It also has two jet black wings on its back.

It reminded me of my avatar in Happy Quest Online: Global since it is almost identical to it.

My mirror image can also move and hop from mirror to mirror.

My parents’ full names are Xander Wood and Sophia Wood.

Both of them are inactive adventurers.

My father’s current occupation is a hunter while my mother is a housewife.

My grandmother’s name is Scarlett Wood.

Mother gave birth last month to my little sister, which they named Olivia.

Mapleminster is the name of the village we live in. It is surrounded by the Great Maple Forest.

Peasants here own a small plot of land for domesticated cattle to graze or to cultivate crops such as wheat, potato, vegetables, grain, etc.

Most of the technology found here resembles that of the medieval ages, with some modern and fantasy technology mixed in for convenience.

There are a lot of water tanks with runes carved on it scattered around the village for safe drinking water and watering crops.

The village has a decent sewage system connected to every house.

The villagers speak a common language similar to English.

Places of worship found in our village are the church of crab, crab mosque, crab shrine, crab temple and crab synagogue, which are all maintained by the slimes.

From what I saw so far, the crab religion is the most influential religion in the village.

My family speaks an unknown ancient dialect with a weird accent, but most of the time, they use the common language to communicate with others.

The village celebrates 5 festivals. We celebrate the birth of the crab god in late summer. We celebrate the return of the crab god and blessings of the crab god in spring. Awakening of the crab god in autumn. Transcendence of the crab god in winter.

For some odd reason, we always have potato soup, baked potato, potato stew, mashed potato, roasted potato and boiled potato every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The other dish that might be present are: roast chicken, roast deer, roast boar, roast fish or roasted bear, vegetable soup, potato noodle soup, different shapes of wheat bread, stir-fried cabbage, wheat cereal, bran cereal, corn soup, oatmeal and, pottage.

There will be sometimes fruits, berries, nuts, crabs and honey, depending on the season and my father’s luck.

Mud crabs are available in the summer. Land crabs are available in spring. Sea crabs in autumn. Winged crabs in winter.

I always play with Alice Spencer, Mark Jenkins, Jack Rodriguez, John Dupont and Josh Vogel after lunch, when my condition is great.

One of our favorite pastimes is playing football on the nearby grass field.

We use the small brown ball owned by Alice and dig a small hole in the grass field that serves as our makeshift goal area.

We sometimes watch peasants lose their homes to a slime invasion.

A scout slime would inspect multiple houses or property, then leave.

The invasion begins when the council slimes decided on what house or property to invade.

A major problem slime usually leads the slime army.

The adventurers will help the peasant in defending the property until they are successfully relocated to a suitable location.

Slimes just hop menacingly outside the house and property they are going to invade, then retreat and return the next day with an even bigger army.

Once the peasant or owner of the property has been successfully relocated to a new location. The slimes will occupy it and plant a red crab flag to mark their new territory.

They seem to possess an unlimited amount of red crab flags stored inside their bodies.

From what I read in the slime encyclopedia, the major problem slime holds the major rank in the slime army and needs 1,500 hours of combat experience to evolve into a brigadier general problem slime.

These are the attributes, skills, and spells of the major problem slime.

Infinite regeneration- user can regenerate their body from nothing.

Leadership- boosts all attributes of slimes under your command by 200%.

Slimes are actually important to the village as they help repel dangerous magical beasts and monsters that roam the Great Maple Forest.

They are usually docile and ignore everyone most of the time. If you go near their territory, they would hop menacingly and turn aggressive if you don’t leave immediately.

Slimes are easy to tame, as they require nothing to make a contract. They sign it with no hesitation, and you can summon them with no time limitation. The problem is they rarely listen to their master’s commands.

They are named after sizes, food they eat (buttermilk slime), job positions (e.g. grand priest slime), social status (e.g. lord slime) and sometimes evolve from wearing certain clothes (comrade slime). Evolved slimes are more powerful and have access to more spells and skills.

End of Chapter 2.
