Chapter 3 - Drawing the Cards

The twin moons ruled over the sky as the night appeared. This was the time when the livings rest, slowing down the flow of mana. Without sunlight, spectral beings rose to feast upon lost wanderers in this place between two borders. A place not owned by humans yet. But, beneath this silent world, purple mana swirled with dirts and rocks. A certain tired pixie gazed upon this scene.

" *Yawn* Can you speed up just a tiny little bit? I am getting sleepy... "

" S-sorry, we can rest for today if you want. "

" No no no! You are almost done with the first floor. "

" Yes! "

With Argos’ hard work, the first floor now stretched to 10 meters long and 3 meters wide. He also managed to dig deeper, changing the room's height to around 2 meters.

With Pix's instructions, he raised several walls to make three distinct rooms. The holes in the front and the back of the second room were acting as connections to move between rooms. Unfortunately, his creations weren't flawless. The walls' shapes were rugged and deformed. This was the extent of Argos' capability.

Perhaps Argos was feeling down, thought Pix.

" Don't feel bad about it, you only need more practice. Besides, there are few things you lack before becoming a full-fledged dungeon. We don't have monsters yet, for instance. "

" Monsters... I kind of remember how dangerous they are and I never even encountered one yet. "

" It must be your instinct... A crystal thing... Maybe? Whatever, we are going to create our first monster tomorrow, so let's go to sleep."

" One last question. Why do we need three rooms? Why not two or four? "

" It's the basics. I learnt it back home. We need a room for the entrance, a room for the actual floor and one for the boss. The second room will eventually have many mini-rooms. They are more of floor sections than rooms, but ours are still small to be called sections. * Yawn * Goodnight, Argos I am out of juice... "

" Wai... "

Just like that, Pix instantly slept like a baby, but not on the cold hard ground, obviously. Just before closing her eyes, green particles drifted below the little miss and became some weird pink powder. The flying tiny glitters seemed to support her small frail body.

" Uhh? Ahh! Pix! "

There was no response. Deep in her sleep, Pix felt at peace, even with the shouting crystal.

" W-wake up! H-How did it end up like this? I can't sleep at all! Not like I need to sleep anyway... "

The truth is that Argos was close to Pix... really close. She was hugging the crystal like a fluffy pillow.

" Protect... I need... to protect my... "

" Pix... "

In the end, Argos was forced in this position, looking over the unmovable pixie for the whole night.

He waited hours and hours in silence, but he was used to this feeling of emptiness. It was actually better with someone by his side. He could almost feel her warmth. At least, he managed to imagine it.

But, even the night has an end as the Sun pulled down the Moons from their throne.

Under the sunlight, summer birds flew past the small dungeon, echoing their songs through the earth.

With a smiling face, Pix let out a lovely voice.

" Isn't it nice? Waking up by these tunes. "

" You are the only one waking up though... "

" Ah? "

" N-Nevermind "

With a straight pose and both arms on her sides, the little pixie was full of excitement.

" Enough stalling. Today is a big day. We are making our first monster and boss. "

With sparkling eyes—with his sparking body, Argos was ready for the task.

" I will do my best! How do we start? "

" That's the spirit! You will be the one to choose the monster since you are the crystal. "

" Me? I am good with whatever you want ; I can't decide for something this important. "

" You can do it, Argos. Trust me. Follow your instincts and you will find the most compatible one! "

" If you say so... "

" Alright. Wait a little bit while I cast my spell. "

After a short moment, a blue 2D rectangle appeared in front of the crystal. Three creatures were represented in the floating box.

" I recorded these three in my [Memory] . They are from my mother's dungeon. You can choose between a [Lizard], a [Slime] or a [Skeleton]. You can also go for the natural process and wish for a great creature from [Gaia]. "

" Whaa.. I knew it, I can't decide at all. "

" They are all great monsters. It's okay to hesitate. I can give you additional information to help you. The [Lizard] is weak at first, but it can evolve into a [Dragonewt], a [Dragon] subspecies. The [Slime] is not strong individually, but its large evolutionary path and versatility can't be laughed at. And lastly, the [Skeleton] is an undead, one of the only monsters species with dark magic. "

" Hmm... "

...

" Alright! I’ve decided! "

Pix opened her eyes and grinned.

" It's about time! "

" I will try my luck and pick the random one! "

" Uhh? Are you sure? "

" Yes! "

" Then, the dice has been cast . "

By mumbling incomprehensible words, Pix assembled multiple colors of mana around Argos. The soul corridor between them was visible again, a merged purple and green spiral. There were red, yellow, blue, green, black and white particles everywhere. And, after a bright flash, all of the little dots merged in one spot.

" This is... "

Both of them stared at the source...
