Elysium, the world's leading company in virtual and augmented reality. Having introduced the first FIT chip 100 years ago, they had led the world into a new and exciting era. The Full-Immersion-Trigger, also known as FIT, was a chip that could be implemented into a person's brain. It would filter all info through it, allowing for complete modification to the world around them.
In its early days it was a chip that was designed to work with fully developed brains, but by its 10 year anniversary they had developed a new model that would grow with a brain for increased integration. This model would later be known as FIT 2.0. Its popularity spurred its introduction to become the first mass produced FIT, and would quickly start being implemented into every hospitals birthing procedure.
As FIT implanted humans became the majority, it soon made people without a fit obsolete, and while infrastructure for those without FIT wouldn't be removed for 40 more years, it had become increasingly difficult for non-FIT people to prosper. In the year 2240, 70 years after FITs initial launch, 97% of the world FIT installed, and used them in their every day lives.
Given this extraordinary development, it was at this time that the only signs of non-FIT infrastructure errr the peeling or graying paint on older buildings. With a FIT, buildings could look however a person wanted, and it was extremely common for buildings to only be designed in augmented reality. This left buildings everywhere looking as they did from the last day of constructing them. With no paint applied, not polish, most buildings looked like the ruins of a long forgotten civilization.
In the eyes of a FIT user, they often looked like spectacles of amazement and wonder. Beautiful combinations of color and texture, with a tasteful mix of architectural flourish often straight out of the designers fantasy. Only 3% of the world's population would ever see the true build and nature of a building.
In a world where the physical wasn't necessary, it was common for people to set their FITs settings to the utmost comfort, or to turn their pain meters to there lowest settings. Yet since 10 years ago it has become almost impossible to turn your FITs augmented reality off, since it controlled so much and allowed access to much more. Only those with extensive knowledge or special injections could manage it, and these people were often employees of Elysium.
Many would view this world as the epitome of human engineering and ingenuity, a golden age. Only those in high positions knew it was a statement farthest from the truth. Due to a malfunction unforseen in the integration of the FIT more then 80% of the world's population had a rejection with it in their early 40's.

This resulted in widespread death, however due to the augmentation ability of FIT, the reality was never revealed to the surviving public. An incredible margin of humanity had disappeared, fortunately people who perished still existed within the system as ghosts of their previous selves. Able to exist in the virtual and augmented reality, for most there was never a disconnect, however for some there was a change.
The new them never had to sleep or eat, they weren't alive in the way others were. They lived in a dimension not configured to act in the same way others did, and this change to their selves became more noticeable to the true living or TL. While it was never revealed, it was gossiped that those who behaved weirdly were VB(Virtual Beings) that had escaped reality and now lived on/in there.
With a mere 1 billion of the population remaining, a small number from the 80% who died, Elysium had been taking drastic measures, due to their creation causing the havoc, they had tasked themselves the responsibility to identify a solution.
It was some 30 years later, in 2270, that a section of Elysium were beginning the creation of the Second World, also known as project Dream. The completion of this project would come to shake the world, while very few had the jurisdiction to know if it, a billion would view it, and many billions would take part. What to many would be just a game, was in fact the exploration of a new dimension, and within this elaborate project was the key to humanities future. It was soon to be a dream to live on.

Hey guys, at first I wanted to write several chapters before posting this, but when I had some early on writer's block, I kind of forgot. So unfortunately this is the only chapter, if you want to see this world or its story, let me know. I posted this so if pressure myself into writing, because anyone wanting more, is motivation enough. Also please help me with proofreading, I do all my writing from a tablet, and I often miss mistakes made by auto-correct.
