Chapter 1:The Woman in the bathroom

As the sun set over the Overlook Hotel in Colorado, Jack Torrance was writing his next novel in a large living room. His son Danny Torrance was riding his bicycle on the second floor corridors. The evening when Jack returned in his room his wife Wendy spoke to him…

-You know Jack….Something attacked our son..

-What?

“Something attacked our son,” Wendy repeated

-Where?

-On the second floor…Someone else lives with us.

– What are you talking about Wendy? it’s winter season, no one is staying at the hotel except you,me and Danny.

– Please, Jack, go to room 237 to make sure that no one else is staying with us.

-Okay, Wendy, I’ll go.

Jack opened the door, shot a sighing look at Wendy, closed the door and headed for the second floor.

There he found the door of room 237 half open. He armed himself with courage and entered…

The room was perfectly clean, the walls were green and the floor was white. Jack went inside. He searched everything in the room. He found nothing. So he headed to the last place he hadn’t searched. The bathroom.

Jack opened her door and got in. The tub was full of water and a woman was in it.

-Hello! Jack exclaimed.

The woman spoke to him.

-Hello Jack..How are you today?

-Fine. Jack said hesitantly

-I’m glad Jack…

Jack fell silent.

– I should leave now, he said and took a step

Immediately the woman in the bathroom stood up and started to head towards him at high speed… Her form had changed from a beautiful woman to an old woman with sharp teeth and big nails. Jack screamed. He ran outside with all his might and left.

He opened the door to his room and quickly entered, closing it behind him.

– Jack? What happened?

– Nothing, everything is fine, I didn’t find anything, don’t worry.

-Okay, let’s not let such an insignificant incident spoil our Christmas vacation. So Danny?

Danny nodded his head.

Now I must tell you the story of Jack and his family.

Jack Torrance is a man over 30 years old, a writer and has worked as a civil servant too. Freddy Muffer was a German who helped Jack with his writing work.

London 1972

January 5

– Good morning Torrance. Freddy said..

– Have a good day, colleague. Said Jack.

Back then Jack was working in an office as a civil servant for Freddy. You see Jack had a friend Jimmy who mediated for Freddy to hire him in his company. Freddy liked him at first sight and offered him to work with him on in a book he was preparing. Jack was the fastest typist in London and he would help Freddy a lot if he wrote the book for him. Freddy was not good at typing on these machines, he wasn’t into technology.

After all, Jack wrote the book and Freddy offered him another job. Jack found himself exhilarated by the knowledge and writing of this book and so decided to write his own.
