To say that I was ‘over the moon’ would be the understatement of the century. I was, in every sense of the word, happy.
Feeling the rays of sunlight wash over my face as the gentle breeze brushed against my skin filled me with the purest feeling of peace imaginable. But, as they say, all good things must come to an end. Well, what happened next would only be described as ‘bad’ by about half of the population. The other half, however, would say it was a revelation.
Peter, Ethan, Natasha, and I all stood at the top of the stairs, each of us holding a piece of paper. We jotted down the name and age of every student that passed us. As hectic as this job sounded, it was actually quite peaceful.
Something about the combined background noises of the water of the lake splashing against Rex Aquarum and the chirping birds put my very soul at ease. The general quiet chatter on the deck and stairs added to this feeling in a strange way. I usually did not like places with a lot of people, but today was different. Today was special.
Natasha, too, seemed strangely calm. Neither of us liked crowded areas, yet both of us were making an exception. She was smiling and talking cheerily to those that were lucky enough to pass through her.
Peter and Ethan merely jotted down the information and then gave the students their next instructions. The two were abnormally synchronised in this task, which was yet another strange element of the scene.

Every student that passed through me seemed eager to talk, but I had no time to chat. I was on a self-set mission. Where this determination had come from, I had no idea. The only thing I knew was that it was strong and I couldn’t resist it.
The dark-haired girl was only a few people away now. And, with the way things were lining up, she would more than likely pass through me. My heart began to beat ever so slightly faster once again.
I hoped that I didn’t seem rude to the other students passing through me. As much as I didn’t want to let everyone around me know, I was kinda in a rush. Or, more accurately, desperate to speak to that girl.
Then, after what felt like an eternity, she got to me.
She was about an inch and a half shorter than me, and she had a strangely unique smell. I couldn’t describe it. It was a good smell, but it was strange.
The two of us stared at each other for a moment. It felt as though I could get lost in her sparkling sea-green eyes forever, but my dreaminess was very quickly cut off.
The two of us took a deep breath simultaneously. I don’t know why I took one, but I did. And then she spoke.
What this girl said was very likely the most shocking thing I had ever heard, at least in a long time. Peter dropped his paper and pen. Ethan and Natasha’s heads spun round alarmingly quick, their mouths hanging open. Even Jay and Isaac, who were a few feet away, stopped inspecting the students in front of them out of complete and utter shock.
‘I’m Cecilia Confussée. Thirteen years old. Albert, right?’
