A day in the life of a ghost

When people think of a ghost they often say "boo", with trembling voice. This makes our ghost sad. For they only try to make the best out of their damnation. Our ghost is of course not a "they". But what is it then? Is it a man? No, I would argue that the ghost we are following used to be a wonderful woman in her alive time. A shame that she is now reduced to a haunting image. Never ask a ghost how they died. They always have reasons to haunt the living world and their wounds are still fresh. You wouldn't ask a stranger how their dog died, right?

With the death of our ghostly woman unknown one can only speculate. Let's begin by examining a working day of this ghost. At witches hour when darkness has crept into the entirety of the haunted mansion our ghost gets out of bed, or her closet as I would more describe it. Ever since she died and could float she seemed to take advantage of this by sleeping in a closet. Only the dead may know why she prefers a closet over a bed. Maybe because the closet only contains dust while the bed has all kinds of nasty vermin in it. Now comes the moment where the ghost deserves a name but again we cannot ask her. Ghosts are only capable of communicating silly things like fear, rot, misery, woe, destruction, and eerie sounds.

Her eerie screeches fill the mansion and it begins to breathe. Doors and windows are opened and closed for no good reason and the air is heavy after all the spit she dropped on it. Let's call this paticular ghost Evie. I am never good with names so Evie the ghost inspects the house and surroundings. See how high the spook-factor is tonight. Outside the mansion a weak fog bank completely fails to hide a man. This man is called Adam and is carrying a lantern. Nobody knows why Adam didn't bring a weapon or anything to protect himself from the ghost. His intentions are a mystery. Has he come to lay down his live? Does Adam seek treasure? Evie the ghost watches the lantern carrier Adam as he nears the forsaken mansion. It's walls are made out of stone as any good home should be. Wood can rot away and make for some nasty surprises. As evidenced by Evie's total surprise when Adam doesn't die while trying to scale the wall but instead creaks open the front door. I may not see beyond the veil of death but Evie the ghost seems pretty irritated at the fact that someone is trespassing on her property. If she weren't dead for decades she would have blushed with fury.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

But the ghost is cunning and watches as her prey enters the main hall. The place is a total mess. Most paintings haven't been set right again after the last visitor whose body is still lying under the chandelier. "That ought to scare this lantarn man off." Evie is probably thinking. Or she was considering which screech is the best because when Adam tries to kneel to pay respect to his fallen comrade a long and wretched scream fills the mansion. Adam holds his lantern at the ready and then Evie suddenly realizes that this is a special lantern. She sees how this man looks at her with a loving look and then observes herself. She has taken a corperal form in the shine of the lantern.

What an outrage! How dare a living person see what a ghost used to before? Evie quickly devises a plan before she presumably starts to have emotions again. The chandelier was already used last night when another cleric foolishly tried to undo the curse. But a ghost is a master schemer. Evie faints distress and runs away as if she feels awkward showing herself to Adam. She tries her hardest to imitate the weeping of a woman and the trick works splendidly. Adam rushes after her into the cellar.

When Adam gets into the cellar he should have known that his faith was sealed but alas a man wants to save the damsel in distress. He rushes forward not noticing that he is walking on planks instead of solid stone. With a last scream and a gurgling of blood Adam falls into a spiketrap. Made specifically for the most annoying of clerics. Evie is contend with seeing another living person dead. After a long night of working she deserves some free time which she spends by rusteling some chains and screaming so loud that the nearest village cannot sleep.
