Ttiring!!
After Five hours of shooting her bow, Ellifain received a message.
Dexterity increased by 1 point. (+1 AGI)
Her eyes widened, “I can gain stat’s by training!”
As she was stunned by this new information, Bregan once again came to check on her.
“This is amazing. Your accuracy has been getting better with each shot. Your average hit rate within the past ten minutes was 50%, compared to .002% when you first started. You’ve really worked hard. Your shot rate has improved as well, and you’re so much more assured of your stance now. I’m really proud of your progress. But this is really a wasteful way to practice, you haven’t retrieved any of your arrows. Don’t you know you can recover your arrows from targets? Arrows are precious and should never be wasted, because if you run out, you can’t shoot your bow.”
Ellifain bowed to the instructor and said, “I will immediately go and retrieve my arrows instructor.”
As she was picking up the arrows, the instructor roared “NO! Are you daft girl?” then he calmed down, “No that’s right, you didn’t even know to reuse your arrows in the first place. Look, when retrieving arrows, you should only retrieve arrows that aren’t damaged. The tail-feathers have to be in good condition, and the shaft can’t be bent.”

New Skill: Arrow Recovery
10% Chance that arrows can be recovered from dead/inanimate targets
3% Chance that you can recover arrowheads from broken arrows.
A smile lit up Ellifain’s face, and once again she said, “thank you, esteemed instructor, your experience and wisdom are much appreciated. I will immediately start recovering my arrows.” She then turned and examined, one by one, all 1000 of the arrows she shot in the past five hours, while thinking, this is turning out to be the most useful way I could spend my first four weeks, as she decided not to leave the training hall except for water during the remaining time she had.
On the fifth day of Ellifain’s first week, she ran out of barley bread.

New Stat: Sustenance
New Stat: Awareness
Sustenance
You are likely to use less stamina in action. You are prohibited from distributing stat bonus points to this stat.
Awareness
Your eyesight improves, allowing you to notice finer detail at a greater distance. Improves your ability to notice what is hidden. Slightly raises accuracy. You are prohibited from distributing stat bonus points to this stat, and it rises spontaneously, depending on the avatars action, especially when you hit a target at a great distance, or notice a hidden creature.
No matter, she thought, it will be uncomfortable, but I can survive on just water, and I can raise the sustenance stat, and she continued to shoot and retrieve arrow after arrow at the target dummy. She had moved on to the moving targets, at 120 meters away.
She continued to only drink water for a day, only to receive the message
You are exhausted.
Strength left you because you haven’t eaten for a long time.
Your Stamina, Strength and Agility attributes are reduced.
You are suggested to eat. If you don’t do it, you may collapse because of exhaustion from hunger.
Ellifain ignored the message, figuring that she would be fine and continued to shoot arrow after arrow.
And the instructor began to watch her from the shadows.
On the second day of only drinking water, Ellifain received the message
You are severely exhausted.
The Stamina recovery has stopped.
Health is gradually reducing.
To prevent dying from starvation, you are strongly advised to eat and rest.
Ellifain was dumbstruck. In no other game she had ever played were there consequences like this for not eating and exercising nonstop. She felt her legs turn to jelly and give underneath her, and she fell to the floor receiving the message
You have collapsed from exhaustion
Continuously exercising without food led to exhaustion and quickened starvation. While collapsed, damage and DoT are doubled. You are unable to move, except to be nursed by another character. You will soon starve to death.
So this is my first death, thought Ellifain, how pathetic.
Ellifain closed her eyes, quietly awaiting her end, when a sweet liquid met her lips.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
“Drink this slowly,” said the soothing voice of Bregan, as she gazed upon his face, “I’ve been watching you ever since yesterday, when you went the whole day without food. I must say, your fortitude and love for the bow impress me, continuing to practice even when you were exhausted and out of food. I’ve really come to like you. From now on I will share my food with you, because you have proven yourself to me. But tonight, you will sleep here.”
Ellifain closed her eyes and slept on the pallet he laid out for her, vowing to never again make the mistake of going hungry.
At the end of four weeks hard work in the shooting ranges, Ellifain finally received a message that was different
from all the others.
Ttriring.
Agility rises by 1 point (+1 AGI)
Intelligence rises by 1 point (+1 INT)
Strength rises by 1 point (+1 STR)
Fame rises by 20 points (+20 FAME)
Life rises by 50 points (+50 HP)
Mana rises by 50 points (+50 MANA)
She was surprised by the rise in fame, which had never happened before, and continued shooting at the dummy, that she was now strong enough to hit from 300 meters away.
A deep voice rang out, “congratulations Ellifain, you have finally completed the marksmanship basic training program. You can no longer learn anything from this facility. To commemorate your passing the basic training course, I present to you this bow. You are the first foreigner in the entire continent of Versailles that has completed this training course.”
Ellifain asked Bregan, “Are there other training courses?”
Bregan laughed, saying “You always were asking questions, there are indeed more advanced training courses, and I could tell you where they are, but that would disqualify you from taking them. You must find them yourself and have passed the requisite training courses in order to take them. However, I can help you a different way. You are inquisitive, skillful, the first person to bother getting to know me, and you are respectful of your elders. I want you to do something for me. Go and tell the elder I have found a worthy champion.”

Ellifain made her way through the forest to the clearing, where she found Jarlaxle tending a flowerbed.
“Elder Jarlaxle,” she cooed, “Instructor Bregan told me to tell you that he has chosen me as his champion, and that I will need to be told more about the history of our race.”
The Elder scowled, “You, Instructor Bregan chose you?! I won’t accept this, a stripling who doesn’t even know magic is this village’s champion! Bah! I will not recognize you. However, you do have the respect of the instructor… well that makes this difficult. I can’t just send you away, but I can’t trust some classless fool who hasn’t even hunted a rabbit. So I’ll tell you what, I’ll give you two months, and if you complete this task, I will acknowledge that you are worthy.”
