Chapter 2 - Town Of Hope
After calming down a little, we decided to traverse the forest in search of a town. We found a few slimes, they weren’t as dangerous as a goblin so killed a couple of them and leveled up.
The sun began setting before long, I decided to search for firewood whilst Mina built a temporary place to rest. We had no food on us so we went the whole night with our stomachs rumbling. We woke up the next day due to the freezing cold air brushing against our skins, but the morning sun warmed us a little, the firewood was all used last night so we had to endure.
After killing several more slimes, we encountered another goblin, thankfully I defeated it in a surprise attack and left uninjured. But there was something else….
“I’ve reached level 5 and unlocked a skill!”
“Ohh, what is it?”

“Anyways, let’s continue, the sun will set soon, these jewels dropped by the slimes might get us some money to live under a roof and buy some food.”
We trekked for another day, and finally, we found a town, atlas we found hope for our survival!
“Hey! Ryu! There’s a town there!”
“Oh! Yes! Finally, We can eat!”
Me and Mina rushed towards the town full of excitement, the town had no walls nor were there any gates, but guard stations were placed near popular entrances. I decided to ask a guard resting on a box near a guard station to see if I can sell the jewels from the slimes.
“Excuse me, but do you perchance know where I can sell these?”
While saying so I showed the guard a jewel dropped by the slimes.
“Oh, a slime magic stone, you must be from the mountains, head down that street and take a left turn until you see a big building with a sign and the words ‘adventurer’s guild’ on it, they’re a good source of income but it’s pretty dangerous.”
“Thank you, sir, have a great day!”
“You too, stay safe out there kiddo!”
I headed back to Mina who was fascinated by the medieval surroundings, I quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her with me towards the adventurer’s guild. I arrived at a building with a massive wooden sign with ‘Adventurer’s Guild’ engraved onto it and we headed inside the building, it was bustling with people, the stench of sweat and alcohol blocked our noses, so we decided to head towards a counter as quickly as possible to get some money and leave the place.

“Excuse me, is this where I can sell some magic stones?”
“Yes, you need to register before selling and there’ll be a 10% tax for every transaction, I’ll do the transaction first since getting a card registered takes some time.”
“Okay.”
I handed over 12 magic stones the size of my thumb, the receptionist lady took a look at the stones carefully and placed them into a box nearby.
“12 slime magic stones, that’ll be 120 Zel or 1 silver and 2 copper coins, 1 silver, and 1 copper with the tax included.”
The receptionist handed over 2 coins, one silver, and the other copper, cash currency doesn’t work here it seems.
“Excuse me, but, I don’t really understand how much the currency is worth here.”
“Ah, you must be a foreigner then, I’ll give you a quick overview of everything. First, coins range from copper, silver, gold, large gold, and platinum, a copper coin is worth 10 Zel and 10 copper is 1 silver, 10 silver is 1 gold and so on. The adventurer’s guild here operates using a class system, the bottom is G and goes to F, E, D, C, B and A, everyone except those under 13 start at F and failure to complete a requests results in losing points and depending on the amount of points lost, a person can drop a rank. Adventurers do jobs appointed by the people in the area and jobs that are always active and provided by the guild such as slime subjugation and medical herb collection.”
“Alright, thank you, I got the gist of it now.”
After collecting our cards and money we decided to ask for directions to a cheap inn. We were exhausted so we rented 1 night in a single room for 5 copper coins and bought some bread for 4 copper coins. After finishing our rock hard bread, we decided to rest, Mina who was silent most of the day opened her mouth when we laid in bed.
“Today was exhausting huh?”
“Yeah, I thought life would be easy in another world but I was wrong.”
“Yeah, it’s definitely tough, I’m tired….. Goodnight, Ryu.”
“Goodnight, Mina.”
