Interlude 1: A Looming Deadline

“I can’t believe we said we’d get this done in a year” complained Al, as he leant back from his desk. It was after yet another failed attempt to get his code working.

“I mean, you all realise how much work there still is to do right?”

“We have a few extra hands joining the project next week, maybe they’ll be able to get us moving a bit quicker.” Mark said, as he too decided that it was time for a break from his computer.

Al had a doubtful look on his face, raising his right eyebrow

“Come now, it’ll take close to a month just to get them up to scratch with what’s going on. I don’t even trust my code. Now I’m suddenly supposed to trust some interns to do it properly. Not going to happen.”

“You do realise that if you worked half as much as you complained we might have been done by now!” came a sharp voice from Riley.

“All you do is jabber on and on about how little time we have, yet I see your lunch breaks getting longer by the day.”
