"Wake up!"
The sound of the teachers voice reverberated through the classroom. Almost everyone flinched considering that he was perfectly calm a moment before.
Accompanying this outburst was a pen aimed at the boy with his head down who sat in the leftmost row in the 3rd seat.
Bang
The sound of the pen banging against the roof of his head could have been mistaken for a firecracker.
Groggily the boy raised his head and, while evidently fighting off his sleepiness he responded--
"Sorry Mr... uh Mr"
He fumbled over his words while attempting to recall the teachers name but he obviously did not care either way. His monotone way of speech made it difficult to see if he was sincere or not.
"Just stay awake, Aki."
The teacher grumbled to himself as he reorganized himself and started back teaching.
And not even a second later Aki's head was back onto his desk.
...
Woosh
The wind roared as cars passed by the sidewalk. Aki was walking home along his usual route, when he suddenly had an impulse.
**I wonder what the road looks like from above**
A strange impulse if anything, but an impulse it was. So instead of following his usual route he decided to take a detour to the nearby parking garage.
...
The sound of the cars was distant from the height he was at. After a certain while of climbing the ramps he had finally made it to the top. He walked over the edge and plopped himself down, allowing his legs to hang off the edge.
He kicked them back and forth observing the sight but-
"How dull... this is not exciting at all..."
He had clearly expected to derive some pleasure from the sight but it was simply too natural. In what sense and by what standard, only a brain as strange as his could comprehend.
He slid back and allowed himself to fall on his back onto the parking garage floor before getting up and descending the ramps
...
It was late out by this time. The sun had set but the world was still lively. Cars still zoomed by, people still wandered the streets, and there were plenty of places open.
This mattered nothing to Aki though. Someone who could barely even be considered present in the world
He as waiting for a green light on a crosswalk.
Ding
The sound of the sign turning green rang out and he walked across the road.
But after he reached the other side...
HONK
The sudden sound of car honk appeared. He turned around to find the source but was met with-
Boom
The heavy truck banged against his body, sending him crashing into a nearby building. Strangely enough though, In his final moments he couldn't find a single memory to hold onto.
...
Falling...
He couldn't feel his body. He was in a state of Limbo, yet he could clearly feel his body falling.
It was a strange sort of feeling, not being able to feel.
...
His surroundings suddenly changed. He appeared to be in a small wooden cabin. Fit with a fire place, small kitchen, and a large couch.
For someone who lived in the modern age a living room without a tv could be considered strange sight.
He tried standing up but his legs buckled beneath him and he melted through the floor.
...
He came to. His body lay on an uncomfortable bunk bed while his body was dressed with orange clothing.
He could see bars reminiscent of prison, but...
"Too quiet.."
The place was eerily quiet. A strange environment for what appeared to be a prison.
He attempted to leave the bunk but lost his footing and thought he would crash into the ground.
But he continued falling.
...
Plop
His body had hit something soft. He looked around but all his saw was pure white in every direction.
In front of him was coffee table with an innumerable amount of cards spread out on it and a chair. And in that chair was a strange feeling boy.
Looking at him made Aki feel uncomfortable. Like the feeling of a mosquito sucking on your body.
He sat up straight and looked straight ahead, making eye contact with the boy.
He had teal, messy hair along with cute looking eyes. He had on a strange faded robe that was evidently way too big for him.
Despite that it fit him perfectly.
"Heyyyyy Welcome!"
He spoke in a strangely exaggerated tone
"Im sure you already know what this is right? Righttttt?"
As he said this his body suddenly blurred and he was right in Aki's face.
"No"
Aki replied bluntly
This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
"Wait really? I thought someone like you would've been waiting for this"
"Don't all losers read isekai manga and fantasize about doing fantasy things in a fantasy world with fantasy girls and really overpowered abilities?"
His speech conveyed his confusion
"What's an isekai?"
"Huh..."
"I wonder if you're really supposed to be here..."
His body blurred as he checked Aki out from different angles.
He soon appeared back in Aki's face and took a step back.
He then said-
"Look into my eyes for a second"
When Aki looked into his eyes it had changed from being completely black to having a weird spiral pattern in it.
"What a peculiar fate..."
His figure blurred again and he was back in his chair.
"Let's make a deal."
"You help me find someone, I give you the excitement you're looking for"
Aki thought about it.
"Sure"
"Yippeeee!"
See such a childlike expression from something that was obviously not a child added on to the strangeness.
"First things first though"
He pointed to the cards on the table
"Sacrifice something to me and in proportion to the value that'll be how many cards you get"
"Don't worry, it doesn't have to be physical"
"It could be a memory or sensation or a body pa-"
"Take my heart"
Aki blurted this out without hesitation
"Alriiiiiight but I'll have to give you an altered constitution because of it"
His figure became a blur once more and he appeared in front of Aki. He then reached his hand into his chest and took out his beating heart. There was no blood however, it simply phased out of his body.
"I'll take special care of it so don't worry about dying too soon"
He stuffed it into his robe showing no caution whatsoever
"Now pick ten cards"
Each of the cards had a certain aura about them. Aki couldn't describe them as anything other than "energized".
He grabbed a stack of them and threw any extras away into the deck that was on the table.
"Now let's see what you pulled!"
He snapped his fingers and the cards on the table before disappeared and were replaced by the ones in his hands before.
"First one"
He picked it up and turned it in Aki's direction. It read-
✧ ✧✧✧ Flame Control ✧✧✧✧
Allows the user to control and generate flames. Output can be controlled. Startup word required to activate ability.
Beneath it was a box where you could fill in the start up word.
"Good start human"
He patted Aki on the shoulder.
Aki was beginning to get disturbed by his constant unviewable movement
"Next One"
He was back in his chair
✧✧✧Natural Dexterity✧✧✧ Grants the user an enhanced body with amazing instincts
"Aaah... your luck will definitely improve"
"Third one"
✧✧✧✧✧Blind Seer's Blessing✧✧✧✧✧ Fortifies one's mind and mental resistance. Also grants the user the ability to see through blindfolds and their eyelids on command.
"Hahaha..."
His laughter was dejected
"Fourth one, maybe you'll get a really rare one this time"
✧Translation✧ Automatically translates and gives the user the ability to write, speak, and read in a language after hearing or seeing it.
"That's... actually pretty useful I suppose"
"Fifth"
✧Natural Talent✧ Increases the overall talent of the user
"That's good for a loser like you"
The insult came out at little too smoothly.
"Sixth"
✧Natural Talent✧ Increases the overall talent of the user
"..."
Sigh
The boy let out a heavy breath.
He threw the remaining cards down in front of me. Each landing perfectly adjacent to one another.
All of them read ✧Natural Talent✧
"I'll be back in exactly 1 minute"
He got up suddenly and started walking in the opposite direction of Aki.
His figure suddenly became a haze and he disappeared.
Aki could feel a pen that wasn't there before in his hand.
Getting the hint he decided to choose the word for his Flame Control.
"Hmmmmm..."
He closed his eyes searching for the word but his mind couldn't come to a conclusion.
"Haaaaaa..."
He heavily breathed out of exasperation and wrote down a "word"
It read "Flame Control"
Which was not one word.
The card began to glow and Flame disappeared leaving Control.
Therefore his startup word was now Control.
"Pffffft"
He could hear stifled laughter next to him.
He glanced over to his left and saw the boy on his shoulder.
"Ahh sorry, your attempt at naming something was too funny to pass up"
"Here"
He handed him a seemingly normal card. However when Aki put his hand on it it felt like something wasn't right.
Not like a gut feeling but rather it felt like it was rejecting him.
Like putting the wrong key into a lock.
He turned it over and it read-
✷✷✷✷✷✷✷✷-------------✷✷✷✷✷✷✷✷ ------ the user to -- certain ---------. Also functions as -------------.
*Warning* - Failure to follow causes ------
Aki had a dumbfounded look on his face
Anyone who saw this could clearly tell that it was dangerous.
"Don't worry it's totally safe!"
The boy had a stupid looking grin on his face.
"Anyways I need you to find the man in this painting."
In front of him, where the coffee table once was, was an easel with a painting on it.
There was a man with bright, long, red hair. His back was facing Aki and on it was a holster of different looking swords.
He was standing on a mountain in a relaxed stance with the sunset in front of him.
"Do I get any clues?"
Aki had long since accepted the situation.
"No!"
The boy said with the exact same stupid grin.
"Can I get a name?"
"No!"
What a strange "person"
"Now with that out of the way..."
"It's time for your amazing, super fun, and exciting adventure to begin!"
He had moved to where the easel once was, taking its place.
"You will spawn in a dungeon"
"Now before I send you off, do you have any questions?"
"What's your name?"
Aki had gotten tired of constantly referring to him as "boy" in his head
"Hmmmm... for now just call me Polaris"
He didn't question why he had to think of his own name. Aki also forgot his own often.
"Alright! Ready?"
"Yes"
Polaris clapped his hands and the world flipped. His vision went dark and everything scattered.
...
Crumble Crumble
He struggled against his restraints. Something was encasing his body.
Crash
He broke out.
There was stone on the ground from whatever was trapping him. His ears were ringing as he gathered himself.
Roar
Huh he thought inwardly as he looked up.
He could see what appeared to be grassy battlefield.
Blood and body parts had been spread across it. Like an unfinished painting.
The source of the loud noise was a large lizard with four wings.
It had dark and sharp scales. And its body was huge enough to house 100 people.
His mind felt sharper than it was before though and his eyes noticed a blade close to him. A severed hand was still connected to it, but he was strangely calm.
He quickly detached it and lifted the sword.
He swung it with familiarity that he was impossible for his body
"Kyaaaaaaaa!"
His attention turned to the girl, cowering in front of the dragon.
She had long ears reminiscent of a bunny attached to her head accompanied by long blue hair and a slender body.
Aki was going to run. Clearly this had nothing to do with him.
But he felt a strange sensation in his body. When he tried to run his body simply refused.
In fact, it was attempting to pull him towards that monster
When he forced his body to go the opposite direction though--
'"AAGGHH!"
His brain felt like it was being suffocated, burned, drowned, crushed, stabbed, bludgeoned, and destroyed all at once.
The pain was horrible
Without his enhanced mind madness would have gripped him instantly.
When he stopped forcing it the pain quickly subsided.
He looked back and saw that the lizard attention was now focused on him.
He couldn't imagine why it's attention changed so quickly until he tried searching for the girl.
She was completely missing
"Haaaaa"
He quickly calmed down with that breath and allowed his instincts to take hold of his body.
The beat began to charge at him, mouth agape.
He swiftly dodged upwards.
He could see that the beast had a one track mind and could only charge at things.
Not only that but its obviously heavy body meant that landing hits would be easy.
The beast circled back around and followed the same attack. Only this time Aki went under.
As he slide underneath the beast he plunged his sword into the belly of it.
As it's underside did not have scales it went in quite smoothly.
He soon emerged from underneath the monster and it couldn't cope with the pain.
It's large body thrashed around attempting to force the blade out to no avail.
"Control"
The ability felt more like an extra limb.
He instinctually knew that he could change it's form freely.
So he formed it into the shape of bow, nocked with an arrow.
And he let it fire.
The arrow pierced cleanly through the lizard causing an explosion from within the beast. Sending its flesh and scales flying all over.
"Hey why did you do that!"
He heard a feminine voice from behind him.
"We were this close to killing it!"
"Aaah... sorry..."
"You're gonna have to make up for this... Give me everything you have."
He patted himself down and found absolutely nothing.
"Geez... if your gonna steal my kill atle-"
Chop
Her words were interrupted by a light chop to the head
It came from a lightly armored man. He had blonde hair and a handsome face. Along with black eyes.
"Sorry about her."
"She can get a bit worked up when it comes to money"
He rubbed his hand against the back of his head. While smiling sheepishly.
"Ouch..."
"You came from Earth right?"
Aki was surprised that he met someone else from his planet this fast.
"Yes"
"Explains how you ended up here"
"I'll take you over to guild and help you get started"
"Follow me!"
He began to walk away with the bunny girl in tow.
And Aki followed.
