Chapter 0, Unexpected encounter

It was a great day, Mike could roam the streets and everyone waved at him regardless if they knew him. At this moment Mike didn't have to worry about work at all. It was peace like no other, Mike has finally made it in life where he can now rest and do whatever he wants without the worry of work or money.

However just as he was about to start enjoying life, Mike's alarm clock dragged him back to reality and started beeping.

"Great. The fifth time I've had this dream, When will I finally rest!" Mike yelled to himself.

However, today was like no other after all Mike had an important business meeting. It was not the best, but it's a nice twist to his day. Or at least Mike hoped.

Without a second thought, Mike got out of bed, showered, dressed, brushed his teeth, and got in his car to go to work.

Mike is the owner of one of the best, most successful companies around WGT INC, or World's Greatest Technology Incorporated. Mike was proud of being quite successful, however he wished his life would be less... less Repetitive. There was nothing Mike could do about his miserable life, not when all he wanted to do was to keep the company running.

As Mike walked into the company building, the lady at the front counter welcomed him, "Morning Mike! Your meeting is down the hall in room 32". Grateful, Mike replied, "Thanks Lucy!".

Mike entered the meeting room and sat down expecting to hear something new. Mike kept an open mind, ready to listen to the news, but as he heard the same old, "Our company is great but could do better" speech, Mike's hopes for a fresh, original day were destroyed. Instead of thoroughly listening to the whole meeting, Mike just blacked out.

Just as he thought it would never end, the business meeting had finally concluded. Mike was exhausted from a long day of work, he didn't feel like going home, nor did he feel like actually doing anything. So he roamed the streets instead.

With nothing in mind, Mike just kept walking, unprepared for anything. But had he known what would happen, he would have prepared...

"Hey!" a small voice said behind him. Mike was surprised, as no one usually talked to him outside of work. He turned around to be met with an unusually small lady, around 22 years of age, with dog-like ears and a tail.

"Do I know you?" Mike responded.

"Nope!" the lady said with a big smile.

"Right..." Mike said, confused, before turning around and walking away. The lady's smile quickly disappeared, and she began to follow Mike.

As Mike looked behind him, he noticed the lady was following him. Swiftly, Mike turned around and asked in a defeated tone, "What do you want?".

The lady jumped in excitement and introduced herself, "I'm Mimi," she said, "And I noticed that you haven't been the happiest."

Mike looked around, making sure there weren't any hidden cameras around, as many prank shows usually do. Sure that it wasn't a prank, Mike finally responded in an agitated tone, "Why does it matter to you exactly?"

Mimi stammered, looking for an excuse as she didn't expect this kind of response, "Because... I... Like making people happy?" she said with an unsure tone.

Skeptical, Mike said, "Sure, whatever. Get lost," and stomped away hoping it was the last time he would see her.

Mimi saw as Mike walked away and hurried after him, "FINE!" She confessed in a rushed tone, "I'm trying to run away. Can you help me?"

Now satisfied with her answer, Mike jeered, "Are you now? You can help yourself just fine."

Mimi started to worry and tried to pursue Mike into helping her, "Please you can't just leave me here! You have to help me!". Mike was starting to lose his patience, "Look go bother someone else that cares alright!".

At that moment, a group of thugs came walking around the corner. Mike looked at them and pointed, "Is that-"

Mimi shoved Mike aside, "Yes! And they have been following me for a while!". Mike panicked. He could not believe the trouble he'd just gotten himself into—a group of thugs looking for trouble, and he was in the midst of it.

Mike knew bad things would happen if he didn't do anything, so he quickly ran in the direction of his car in hopes of escaping the situation he'd just gotten himself into.

Looking back, Mike realized what he'd just done and couldn't bear the thought of someone possibly dying because of him, "It's ok she's not in any real trouble" Mike kept telling himself as he forced himself to run. Watching as the thugs got closer to her position Mike stopped and sighed, "Come on!" He told Mimi while motioning her to follow, "Let's get out of here before they find you!".

Mimi rushed over to Mike while being sure she wasn't spotted by the thugs, "Thank you" she whispered. "Yeah don't mention it" Mike responded, "Now let's get out of here!".

Mike led Mimi to his car trying his hardest not to get them spotted, "Here we are" Mike said as they approached the car. To Mimi's surprise, it was a very expensive sports car, "Is this your car?" She asked.

Mike feeling a bit insulted responded, "Yeah. Why?" Before Mimi could answer Mike said, "Just get in, we'll talk later!".

Mike started the car's engine, which attracted the attention of the thugs. Seeing the thugs looking their way, Mike wasted no time and stepped on the gas, telling Mimi, "Hold on! It's going to be a bumpy ride."

As the car sped away, Mike saw three trucks following them. Furious, Mike turned to Mimi and demanded,

 "Why are they after you?"

In her defense, Mimi replied,

"I don't know! They saw me and immediately started chasing me!"

Annoyed, Mike said, "Great! Just great! Did you even try to reason with them?"

Mimi sat there, realizing that this entire situation could have been avoided if she had tried to reason with them. However, she also acknowledged that attempting to reason with them could have put her life in danger.

A high-speed chase between Mike and the thugs had begun. Through the side view mirror on the car, Mike noticed that the thugs had begun pulling out guns from the back seat.

"Good lord, What did I get myself into" Mike said. Mike swerved into an alleyway in hopes of losing the thugs, unsurprisingly they followed.

"As if I needed more problems in my life!" Mike murmured to himself. Mimi looked at Mike with a hurt expression.

The car chase finally exited the alleyways and Mike started to speed up. Many pedestrians looked over, most calling the cops. Mike tried his best to not crash into any cars or pedestrians as he was going way above the speed limit. In an attempt to get the car to stop, the thugs opened fire on Mike,

"ARE THESE GUYS INSANE!" Mike had yelled. Things were escalating quickly and if this kept going in this direction Mike would not be able to get away.

Suddenly Mike heard sirens, his heart started pounding even harder, "Oh no" he thought, police have been summoned to the chase. Knowing the thugs would get stopped if they kept shooting and speeding, Mike took his chances and slowed down to avoid getting stopped himself.

As Mike suspected the thugs started getting pulled over by the police, Mike let out a sigh of relief, "Looks like I finally lost them". Mike took the next turn and got as far away as possible.

Mike looked over at Mimi and asked, "Where do you live so I can drop you off?" Mimi replied, "I don't think I'm safe at home anymore." Mike, initially agitated, then calmed down and asked, "So what are you proposing?" Anxious, Mimi began thinking of an idea and said, "What if I stay with you for a while, until we can put a stop to this?" She awaited a response.

Finally, Mike brought the car to a stop and pondered, "You're telling me that after all that, I still can't catch a break?" Mimi stared at Mike with a desperate look in her eyes and said, "Where else could I go without being followed? You saw what they would do to get to me."

Mike sighed and expressed, "I'm gonna regret this, am I?" Then, he looked over at Mimi and reluctantly said, "Fine." Mimi jumped up and hit her head on the roof of the car, saying, "Thanks! I promise it won't be THAT bad!" Mike, now aware of what was to come, said in a tired voice, "Yeah not that bad".
