Chapter 2: My Parents are Heartless!!?? PR

I became aware of a warm wetness surrounding me, slowing pushing me forward as it contracted, soon pushing my head free. The rest of my body quickly followed. I let out the customary wail, previous reincarnations having taught me that people tend to freak out when the baby stays silent. The air was fresh and clean, free from the pollution that came from a more industrialized era, probably a more medieval time period, though I wasn't sure since I had encountered the spark shortly after arriving in this world.

A jubilant cry announced, "It's a healthy boy my lord and lady, the first born babe to the Redsword noble house is the new heir!"

I felt myself be gently rocked in the midwives arms, then I was carefully handed over to my new mother. Curious, I opened my eyes to get a better look at her face, as the last time I had seen it, it had been scrunched tight with pain. All that met my eyes was darkness.

At the same time, I felt my mother's chest lurch as she gasped in horror, "Charles, His EYES!!!!!"

I was snatched away from my mother's arms by a pair of large hands, my father’s I presume, and was held up for a moment. Then their grasp inexplicably tightened, to the point where I felt the need to let out a piercing wail, this guy, what did he think he was doing to a new born babe.

His grip quickly loosened, but my troubles were not over yet.

"He's blind, completely USELESS. There is no way he can rule the Noble Redsword house, he won't be able to do anything by himself."

Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence, DAD. I was interested in this blind thing though, this would be my first time to be permanently without sight, actually I would have gotten up and danced if I had been able to, this meant I got to learn how to do everything all over again.

I was rather disappointed in my mother though, was she just going to let this jerk keep calling her baby a piece of trash? I mean, where was that famous mothering instinct.

My opinion of my mother dropped even further when she said, "We need to get rid of it"

I was relegated to the "it" section, you were so happy I was a boy a few minutes ago. No, wait, that’s not important, WHAT DO YOU MEAN GET RID OF!!!!

I had just made my resolve to live with determination for that little spark, I can't afford to die yet!

"Ah, yes my dear, as brilliant as ever. To everyone in this room, my son was born ill and died shortly after his birth. If I hear anything to the contrary, you all will be executed, AM I CLEAR."

Nervous murmurs of affirmation filled the room.

"Good, now as for this thing..."

He paused for a long moment, probably trying to decide how to best kill me.

A cold sweat was beginning to trickle down my back when a new voice spoke in a deep tenor.

"My Lord, my wife gave birth just yesterday, it could be announced that she had twins, let me take the child, his blindness may not be permanent, so he could serve some small purpose to you yet."

Ah, my savior!

"Excellent idea Seph, he was born healthy, so he may attain sight one day, and until then, he will be no stain upon my family name. I also realize the trouble raising him so I will also triple your salary."

What, so you’re nice enough to triple the salary, but not enough to take care of your own son?

Well, at least I'll be able to keeping living this way, so for once I'll agree with my father, excellent idea Seph.

And with that, I was handed over to me new adopted father.
