Chapter 4 Preparing for a journey

Chapter 4 Preparing for a journey

Here is a new chapter. I did say in the introduction that I didn't have a plan on a scheduled release but I still feel like I should release a chapter like once a day or once every two days.

It is just that some school projects keeps me from focusing on the story but shouldn't impact it too much.

I would also love it if you could rate and review so that i can fix my story in the aspects that it is lacking and gain more views and followers so that I can add a donation button and get money and hopefully get enough so that I don't need a job and can just write all day long.

Eh sorry i got to full of myelf.

But seriously write a review so that i can further improve the story and my writing so that you readers can enjoy it more.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It have been two month since we first came here and I got to say it wasn’t really what I had expected. I first thought that the lessons would be something extraordinary like given a demonstration in how to create a big fire ball and such but I was wrong…

The first lessons we had was all about basic. The magic lessons were more theory and meditation since we needed to be able to control out mana before we could even use the simples of spells. And not enough with that Julius told me that since there were almost no records on void magic and he didn’t know anybody that could use void magic so I was pretty much on my own. The only thing I could do was to get down the basics in meditation and in mana control and then continue train on my own to develop my own spells.

The lessons with Gus was a bit more expected since we all had to build up our basic strength. The things he made us do was running and basic strength training like pushups. After a month of that everyone was a bit more buff or trained at least.  After a month he gave us permission to choose a weapon to our liking and said he would start training in what we choose.

The retard choose the standard sword, Charles decided for a spear, Becca decided for a chain sickle with a weight on the other end. It was actually quite amazing how she ended up with it. Apparently she lived on a farm in our world and used to play with a lasso on the horses they owned. And when she was out shopping with Louis they decided to visit Hammers Stone where I worked. They were amazed by all the various weapons and she found it in the back stashed away with some of the things that trainees made. When she saw it she almost got a tear in her eyes and only said that it reminded her of home.

I offered myself to fix it up for her and she only smiled and said yes. Louis picked bow and arrows. Not surprising considering her nature and personality. As for myself I made my own katana. This is not the one from the test but one of my few successful work.

I had gained a lot of tips and experience from master. And I quite enjoyed smiting weapons. It somehow made me feel like I still had a connection to my old man. That made me happy even though he wasn’t very caring about me, but hey, that is what family is I suppose.

What Gus taught us wasn’t anything fancy as a special move or anything. Well I expected that it was only the basics he would teach us. And sure as that.

He taught us the correct way to hold our weapons, the correct way to swing our weapons and for Louis how to shoot and aim, the correct way to parry and so on. It was all the basics of basics so to say. After a few weeks of that he told us to spar against each other.

I won’t get in too much in that since it was just a few amateur fighting each other but the results was quite satisfying. The first spar was me against the retard and I managed to beat him up real good hehehe. It felt really good. He was so stupid too thing the same thing over and over again. I just did a simple counter and that was it.

The spar with Becca and Charles was more even as Charles had a hard time getting close but Becca couldn’t do much against Charles either. It ended with Charles winning after he caught her sickle around his spear and pulled it from her.

I was sparring against Louis next. She had quite the good aim and was moving around constantly. But sadly that was it. It wasn’t hard for me to dodge her arrows or just simply cut them in two. And I made her surrender by getting in close where she wasn’t very good.

The retard and Charles fight turned in to a power struggle but sadly the retard came out winning after Charles stepped on a stone and lost his balance. The retard took the opportunity.

Louis managed to win against Becca. While Becca’s attacks were more powerful. Louis just stayed out of her range and continued attacking with her arrows which Becca seemed quite troubled with.

My spar against Charles was even but I had the advantage most of the time. My technique was better than his and that was his downfall.

Louis managed a draw against the retard. He couldn’t get close to her but she couldn’t do much against him as he kept cutting her arrows.

Becca won against the retard. She completely dominated mid-range and when he finally manage to get up close she was waiting for him and managed to trap him in her chain

We also had some combined lessons. They were mostly about how we could fuse our magic with our martial art and weapons. When I heard that I thought of a spell of my own. In this time I had only learned one spell which was kind like an inventory in RPG games. I created something like a pocked dimension. The only thing was that I didn’t have enough control over my mana to make it as big as I would like. Right now I managed to make a pocket dimension with a space of 1m3. It sure was helpful but I wanted it a lot bigger.

I managed to make some money with my blacksmithing. I often trained with making knifes. If I made weapons they wouldn’t sell since they weren’t good enough but knives was different. They were used by almost everybody and was in quite a high demand. It was also the closest to the katana that I could make almost perfect.

But that is not to say that I didn’t make any weapons at all. No I also did a lot of swords, katanas and war axes. This was under masters’ orders so that I could get a good feel for the balance of weapons. Without experience you won’t be any good as they say.

I did get to know the others a little better during those two months. Not the retard as I didn’t want anything to do with him. It appears that Charles are from a family that protects the forests in Canada. Louis is from a rich family in USA. A lot of people wanted to get close to her for the money. That’s probably why she is shy yet determined because of her childhood in a rich house. And Becca lived on a farm as I said before.

It was quite hard to believe that two months had actually passed since we came here. I had plans on leaving before but I think now is the right time but before that I need to speak with master.

I looked for him at his office where he usually was if he were not in the work room.

-       “Sir, do you have a moment?” he looked up on me, noticing the seriousness in my eyes.

-       “Yes. What have you come for?”

I was quite nervous about this. The time I had spent here he had treated me very well. I actually liked him quite a lot, that came as a surprise as I noticed it since I usually don’t feel that way about anyone. Sure I could have someone I wanted to help like Becca or like Louis which I just thought was innocent and couldn’t really leave alone.

-       “I was planning on leaving in a few days.” He looked shocked at me.

-       “Could you tell me why?”

-       “Yes, I want to travel the world. I guess you have noticed that I am connected to the heroes?” he had the look like something just fell in the right place.

-       “Are you sure you don’t want to stay? You have a lot potential to become a top notch blacksmith.”

-       “Yes. This is something I feel like I have to do. But before I leave I would like if you could help me smith a katana that I will take with me on my travels.”

-       “Sure boy.” You could see a sad look in his eyes.

While I have been learning from him I got to hear why he came to human lands and stay. He had a son that died in some struggle in the dwarven kingdom. His wife passed away long ago and then when his son died he couldn’t live there anymore. He didn’t say what happened and I could see that I shouldn’t ask until he told me himself. I think I have been that he lost, even though we had only known each other for two months.

I should let the others know too. And I guess that I also have to tell the king. Uh I don’t think this will go very well. I started making my way to the palace. As I walked towards the gate the guards opened the gate as they knew me. I told them to notify the king that I wished to discuss something with him and the other heroes. I met Becca and Louis on my way to the palace from the gate. They get along well now and you could almost always see them together.

-       “Hey! This is rare you only come here when we have lessons.” Becca was the one who yelled out to me.

-       “Yeah I have something that I have to tell the king and you guys. Could you look for Charles and the ret… ahem Arthur and bring them to the throne room?”

-       “Sure but why?” Louis asked curios.

-       “You will see soon.”

They both gave me a curios look before they left. While I was wandering around the palace looking for either Julius or Gus, a maid came up to me and said that the king would receive me. Seriously I really hated that king. It’s just his attitude that I just can’t stand. The maid started to lead me to the throne room. As I entered I could see that everyone was her, even Gus and Julius.

-       “I hear that you wanted to notify me of something. I hope it isn’t anything bad.”

-       “Not really. I am just planning to leave in a few days.”

When I said that they all looked at me confused. They all had a look that was asking why I would want to leave. Louis and Becca looked a bit sad at what I said.

-       “Why would you want to leave?” he asked in a disbelieving voice.

-       “I wish to travel the world and see it for my own eyes. And I have already learnt pretty much everything I could here since there is nobody that can help me with my void magic. And the sword practice is just the basics which I have to continue to train. Gus said so himself that we should use the basics he taught us to further develop our own style. As I see no meaning in continue to stay here I will take my leave to gain experience.” I said this in a confident voice that wouldn’t give any room for him to argue.

-       “But we need your help to fight the demons!” He yelled out.

-       “That is also why I wish to travel. From what I know humans are always at fault somehow and I wish to confirm why I am fighting against them and even if I should fight for the humans.”

He looked dumbfounded at me as did everyone else in the room. I guess they all thought I was crazy to even say something like that in front of the king.

-       “I just came here to inform you since I thought you should know because you are the ones that brought me here with no way back.” I reminded him of that so he would feel some guilt if he had any feelings.

I said what I have come here to say and started to walk out not giving a shit about all the eyes that waned me dead. Not surprising since I just walked out on their king and didn’t respond blindly to the “duty” that I have been given according to them.

When I got back to the smithy, I started to talk to master about the katana. We talked about the materials, designs and temperature it should be heated in and so on. We decided that we should make it tomorrow as it was starting to get late. I went to bed and felt good to get a good bi of sleep.

I woke up and started the day as I normally did with washing up then breakfast and talking to Amy. I told her that I was probably leaving tomorrow and she seemed very sad. I had grown quite fond of her in the two months I have been here. I almost see her as a sister. Who would have though right? I have gained quite a bit relationships in two month when I had none in a few year in my old world. Life didn’t seem as meaningless now.

After breakfast I met up with master as we were going to start making the katana. We decided on obsidian as the material. It was a very rare kind of metal that was very precious to smiths. I was quite surprised when master told me about using it.

I had design ready on a paper that we drew yesterday. Master was going to do most of the work but I would do the parts where I felt confident that I wouldn’t mess up. It took 13 hours of work with no pauses to complete the katana.

(AU Note: I don’t really have a clue how it works and so I won’t do a half assed attempt to describe the process. If anyone have accurate knowledge how a katana is forged and give me the description (not in a 1000 + essay) I will see if I can update this chapter)

The katana was one of the coolest weapons I have seen. It came out a masterwork, at least that what it felt like. The katana was completely black in color because of the obsidian. On the blade was pattern that looked like thornvines twirling and snaring, it was gold colored and the contrast was breathtaking. The guard was also black with the golden pattern of the thornvine, it was slightly curved downwards. The length of the katana was one and a half meter. I wanted it a bit longer so that I would get a bigger reach. I got to be honest here, most of the work was done by master but I still did some parts.

(Au Note: Here is an image of what it looks like but a little diffrenet)

-       “So what should we name this little fella?” Master looked very proud and satisfied.

-       “Hm how about Black Thorn?”I suggested after the pattern it had.

-       “Not bad. Black Thorn it is. This little fella came out pretty good. It is actually one of my better works.”

-       “I will go and have someone I know make a scabbard for it. You just take the rest of the day off and rest.” I didn’t mind as I was starving.

I thought of eating at some restaurant so I went out and started looking around. To my big surprise I ran in to Becca, Louis and Charles.

-       “Hi! What are you doing out here?” Becca called out and asked curious.

-        “I just finished making my katana with master. We worked quite a while and now I am hungry so I thought of getting something to eat.”

-       “I know a pretty good place that has a very good steak.” This time it was Charles that spoke. I was a little surprised. I hadn’t gotten to know him very well since he was mostly with the retard which I tried to avoid. I didn’t have anything against Charles or anything.

-       “Yeah that is a good idea. How about we all go and eat together?” Louis proclaimed with a bright smile.

It didn’t really matter for me and who knows it could be a bit fun. I should also give them some tips.

-       “Sure.”

Charles led us to a restaurant called The weeding bloom which I thought was quite a strange name. The inside gave off a cozy feeling. We sat down at a table and started order when the maid came to us. I took the steak that Charles mentioned before.

-       “Are you really leaving?” Louis asked out of nowhere.

-       “Yes there is nothing left for me here. I also think you should stop trusting the king so unconditionally.” They all looked at me for an explanation.

-       “Do you really think you should trust some guy that want you to fight for them in a war when he just kidnapped you?” Now they all looked confused. Seriously couldn’t they think about it for themselves?

-       “Okey then can you please tell me the difference from what the king did and if someone grabbed you from the street and put you in the van. When you get out of the van in the middle of nowhere with no clue of where you are the man that just grabbed you says that he  loves you or something and that with time you will feel the same way.” They all took a little time to think about it. At the same time our orders came. And the steak really looked delicious.

-       “When you put it like that I guess that there really isn’t much of a difference.” Becca finally came to the conclusion. The other two looked at her not sure what to think.

-       “What should we do then?” Charles asked.

-       “The first thing you guys can do is to not be so trusting in the king and the royal family. Not all of them are bad I guess but I am sure that some of them only see you as sacrificial pawns for the war.”

-       “I also suggest that you stay with them and take them up on their hospitality as much as you can before going travel yourself. Learn everything you can about magic from Julius. That is also one of the reasons that I will leave since there is nobody to teach me any void magic I don’t have any reasons to stay here.

I gave them some of my opinions on what options they have and what I think that they should do. Hmm I seem awfully nice today, I wonder why. The rest of the meal we just discussed some random stuff like how hard Gus training was and such.

When I finally got back to my home during these two months I was greeted by master.

-       “Sir have you acquired the scabbard from your friend?

-       “Yes and I also have a little present for you.” He unsheathed the sword, and when I took a closer look, the patterns on the guard where glowing slightly red. I wondered what it was but before I could ask him.

-       “My friend that made the scabbard is also an enchanter. This sword has been enchanted so that will almost always stay sharp so that you don’t have to worry about sharpening. it has also been enchanted with extra durability and should be quite hard to break.” I was shocked to say the least. Who would have thought that the strict master would give me such a wonderful gift?

-       “Thank you so much sir.” I said as I went to him and hugged him which shocked both him and me. My body reacted kinda on its own.

I was laying in my bed excited, thinking about everything that had happened during the two months here. Maybe it wasn’t so bad in this world after all. Was the last thing I remember before drifting off to sleep. Tomorrow my journey would begin.
