Intermission 2: So long my friend

Lisabeth's pov

Almost home, the cart driver just told us that we should be able to see the city any moment now. Oh I am so happy finally returning from the absolutely boring family meeting in the capital. No more introductions, no more shaking hands, no more smalltalk. I can finally act like a child again.

I really hate that I inherited our family's bloodline so strong. Because of it I have matured way to quickly. My mental age was already that of an adult when I started to go to school. I remember begging my parents to not send me to school cause what is someone with the mind of an adult gonna do there but they insisted that I should go in order to not raise suspicion.

But in the end I am happy that I was forced to go to school because it was there that I met William. He is by far the strangest kid that I ever met. He, like me seemed to be really out of place in that school. You could say that it looked like he had done all of this already. He never had any problem with the things they taught us and if you looked at him it would seem like he could drop dead at any moment because of boredom. He even provokes every teacher just so that he can have a bit more fun.

But the strangest thing around him was by far his mana. His mana is also the reason why I chose to try and talk to him on the first day and I am so happy I did. You could really say that he was able to draw out the child inside of me. He always was so understanding and explained me anything I wanted to know. I just felt really small and unknowing when I stood next to him. Just like a normal child would feel like when standing next to an adult. He was the person that gave a normal childhood. Something not many house members "blessed" with the bloodline can enjoy.

I can honestly say that being able to sense mana and especially his is the only good thing my bloodline has ever done for me.

He is just such a wonderful child but I has done some things that leave me scared witless. I remember seeing him get bullied by those other nobles. I may have the mind of an adult but even so I was way to scared to try and help him. But then he just started to laugh and I witnessed the most brutal beating I had ever seen in my life.

It only took a few seconds and most of the bullies where laying unconscious on the ground. The only reason why not all bullies was beaten up was because a few of them ran away.

After that one sided beatdown William dragged the noble of to god know where and the next day that noble was as obedient as a dog.

Truly a strange kid but I am so happy to have him in my life nonetheless.

Ah I can see the top city. There are so many lights is there a festival going on that I did not know about? Dang it I could have asked William to accompany me. Maybe It is not to late to still go I should ask my parents.

“Dad, Mom look at all the pretty lights is there festival going on?”

“What are you talking about sweethar...... Dear God we need to get away from here. Coachman turn back the city is under siege we need to run away.” -dad

Wait what this can't be happening. No no I don't want to lose everything. I slam the door of the wagon open and start running to the edge of the forest.

“Lisabeth get back here we need to leave right away.” -dad

I can hear my father shouting at me but this is not the time to be an obedient little girl. I keep running and now I can see it, the city is aflame and an army is charging trough its gate.

As I gaze into the fire that have set my world aflame. I can see a person appearing out of nowhere in the corner of my eye. I need to check it out, come on Lisabeth you can do it, you are an big girl already. I gather all my courage and start walking slowly closer to it. As I come close I can see that the mysterious person actually is a little girl.

Wait that is Williams little sister what is she doing here.

Wait a second I can sense it. She was hidden by a spell of his. Wait this means that William.............. died.

Tears start flooding my face this can't be happening. I must have made a mistake in my reasoning, lets go over it again.

This little girl can be no one else then Williams little sister. I have seen them together on many occasions.

The spell that he used was a weak concealment spell that if not broken would remain for days since it only takes a miniscule amount of mana to maintain.

There is no mistake he must have died. The William I know would never abandon his little sister. Most likely he hid her here and went looking for his parents but met his fate on in all of the turmoil.

Suddenly I can feel someone hugging me from behind. No mistake this is mom.

“It is gonna be okay sweetie, we are here with you. We are just gonna move to the capital.” -mom

“Mom ,sob, William ,sob, he ,sob, died.”

Mom starts hugging me tighter and strokes my head.

“And why would you think that sweetie” -mom

I can hear she tried to sound as loving and caring as possible. As I tell her my reasoning I can see the gentle smile on her face dying down. If I remember she was good friends with Williams mother Valerie.

“Sweetie how would you like a little sister?” -mom
