As we walk through the busy streets of Hans Village the wafting smell of baked goods fills your nose. The signal of the medieval fair is clear through banners trumpets and bells.

To your left and right are cramped wooden stalls with bright fabric roofing occupied by sweaty vendors using simple frames to display their merchandise.

Be it alcohol, elixirs, vegetables, jewelry whatever it may be, its vendors are here doing their best to get customers attention.

Then suddenly I pull you by your arm towards a pottery stall where various wares are laid on clothes and leaves. You're a bit startled but nonetheless obliged.

I take my time going through the products before deciding on a blue and white majolica ware.

Dropping a bag of gold coins. “I'll take this one, ” I say to the vendor, an old man with clear wrinkles on his face and hands.

“Please sister, this is too much for a simple vase, ” he says after looking into the bag.

Holding onto my just purchased ware, I console him. “Please, keep the change, we're in difficult times after all.”

He thanks me for the generosity while you stare in curiosity as I admire the majolica ware.

“Attention everyone, ” a loud voice silences the noisy crowd.

We look up with everyone to see an armored knight beside a fair skinned man draped in fine clothing clearly of noble origins, floating above us with a flying carpet.

The noble clears his throat before he begins speaking.

“It's been a difficult few months I believe for a lot of you these past few months, hence I want to thank you all for enduring and holding on to get this day.

A beautiful day were nobles and peasants are one, moving amongst each other, gathering ourselves to benefit each other through goods and services.

It's also the start of a period where we can all indulge ourselves in our desires. Running amok through the town, drinking in excess, eating and sexual endeavors, ” he says with a cheeky smile, while the crowd cheers along.

“Order,” the guard announces, controlling the crowd.

“So please let's enjoy ourselves and give thanks to the church for making such days possible, and each their own until Ash Wednesday. Where we'll gather once again in repentance and starting afresh. Cheers!” He yells with raised arms. And the crowd follows right behind him, before going on about their way.

It doesn't take long for music to fill the streets with musicians and bards. Jugglers stepping with their trick and skills entertaining us and passersby.

Then suddenly a hand gets my attention. “Sister Lily! I didn't expect a carnival like this. Shopping I see,” a woman says, taking note of the ware in my hands.

With a smile I indulge her. “Jezebel, it's good to see you again. Are you headed somewhere?”

“I'm going to watch the mystery play. Oh and by way my thanks to you and the church for making the play public this year,” she gleams with excitement.

Your curiosity piques at the mention of the mystery play

Taking hold of her hand. “Please don't mention it, it was about we took the plays outside rather than just within the church. Do you have an idea what this year's theme is?” I ask

Jezebel leans into my ear. “A little someone told me it's about Abel and Cain, but we can't be too sure, ” she whispers with a smirk.

“Can never be too sure indeed,” I reply.

“Well I better get going. See you another time, ” she says, taking her leave.

I pull you by your hand, “well let's go see our mystery play. I'm also curious, ” I say to you.

On our way to the play the excitement of the play lingers in my thoughts, then suddenly my attention was drawn elsewhere I startle you with a quick stop, and look towards a group of kids making their way to the village green.

“Oh my, I didn't plan for them to split up this early, ” I say.

You look towards the direction I'm looking at, just to see Ace moving with a group of kids similar to him in age.

A light chuckle escapes my lips. “Well he's a lively fellow isn't he?” I say momentarily lost in my own thoughts.

Your heavy gaze brings me back to the moment.

“You must be wondering what I’m thinking, watching that boy run off with such glee. Perhaps you see it too—the spark of trouble that makes this all the more entertaining. ”

I give out a heavy sigh before facing you. “ Plans have changed. I'll take you to a play another time.”

You watch me massage my temples. “Now I need to figure out how to toy with that boy and make his supervisor's life a bit easier, ” I mutter to myself with a daring smile.

“Well bye bye reader, ” I finally say, pushing you through a light.
