Mingling voices. The shuffling of feet. The soft whine and rumble of hovering public transportation. All of these ambient sounds in the centre of the city. The flickering lights of holograms overhead, filling the metropolis skyline from end to end advertise everything from shoes and clothes to gadgets and new technologies.
In the year of 2137, technology has been able to replicate the holograms seen in films into reality.
One in particular, being viewed by many people worldwide as well, displayed a small, desolate city being sweeped by robotic armed forces demonstrating their military abilities whilst their host controllers sat in a room, not moving a muscle as a new brand of neurolink technology is being tested.
People watch the buildings being demolished with a mute interest, most with the thoughts of what will go there next. Some questioning the choice to demolish the old relics from one hundred years before.
Before the feed is cut of the success with the new technology, a blink is all you'd need to miss what happens. Which almost everybody had done as it swapped back to the news stage. Only two ex-forces majors and a member of the Second Universal Parliament Of Nations, who saw some severely hurt teenagers within a weird, impossible shell.
They were all in a weird, iridian and silver coloured shimmering shield that seemed to radiate inwards, as it started to corrode the machine attempting to destroy it through time as the building material around it disintegrated as well.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
Seconds after the feed ends, the shield disintegrates, implodes and explodes simultaneously as the teenagers all huddle and cling on to a machine that had been hidden in the ancient building from the centre of the spherical void the shield once was.
The robot attacking it had been cleanly cut as if a long, curved blade of a katana had been immediately cut through it as it is disconnected and falls down into the small crater.
The memory chip within the head segment had been taken along with the teenagers in the silver sphere that had been there previously, as nobody was expecting them to demolish the location where todays technology was made possible.
The buildings were all part of Avelon Laboratories. But experimental technology had been made illegal just weeks before and it was then due to be demolished, when all the files and experimental units and technologies had seemingly vanished into thin air, along with the three leading head scientists of the 22nd century.
But the teenagers were not dead as far as one of the ex-force majors was concerned. They knew of the experiments being done in that place, feeling glad that the area had been demolished. In front of them was a mission folder that contains the last remaining information of what had happened to the kids.
----------------------------------------
The man grabbed the folder and signed the bottom of a paper that was to reassign him to the head of a covert, experimental division that the higher ups of 5.UP.0N were not aware of.
Arriving at the designated location given to him in the brief two hours after leaving his apartment in New Vyce, in the city of North Avolia, he is granted access to the place that isn't visible on a digital map.
Walking into a room with a single flickering light, the room salute him as he places the brief folder down onto the table. Seconds later, a hologram of the experimental military and science collaboration project logo and title appears above the centre of the table.
