I have an outline for the future chapters, and all of the major plot points of 33 are planned out. Including character deaths, battles, etc. I already know the ending. The outline doesn't include everything that will happen in each chapter, though. Now I just have to actually finish this rewrite and then the novel itself. I make an update on the rewrite once a week. Check below for the current one. Planned word count for 33: five million words. OCTOBER 16, 2024 UPDATE: I'm currently editing chapter 48. There are 26 more chapters that need to be edited, and then this rewrite is finally finished. I mentioned before that I don't edit past chapters as much as I used to, but yesterday, I made an edit to one of the really early ones. There was a sentence I liked in it, but that I felt was clunky. So, I deleted it. I hope that this rewrite will be worth it. Earlier, I was angry at myself for making 33 be such a bad story in the first place. Sure, I'm improving it, and it's definitely much better than the initial version, but I'm bummed out that 33 is so unknown and unpopular. The little attention it got before I started this rewrite was undeserved. I truly feel that way. The new 33 is so much greater. I made some changes that should be improvements, and some of the changes I made add some realism. Like, some of the characters are more realistic now. I'm making character development not be so sudden. That's one thing I'm having fun writing. And I'm not far from chapter 50. That's when 33 starts getting really good, I think. I'm fond of the 60s and the 70s as well. They're full of bad writing, of course. But the scenes were great as ideas, but the execution was awful. Things like prose need to be improved in those chapters. That's what I plan to do, too. So much work needs to be done. I'm being careful as I write this thing. I don't try to rush it. I remember when I was working on one chapter, and I started to type faster, so I could finish this rewrite quicker. Well, I ended up not being able to focus very well. So I stopped typing faster, did it slower instead. I wrote at my usual pace. I think that's fine, though. I want 33 to be done ASAP, but I'm not in a desperate rush to finish it. I won't mind it if I'm still working on this rewrite in January 2025. Honestly, it's been almost two years anyway. The real disaster will be if this rewrite still isn't finished by 2026. And I tend to forget that I actually have more chapters to write beyond chapter 74. I've been rewriting this story for so long that it feels like there's not even supposed to be a chapter 75 someday. And yet that's the plan. 33 will have hundreds of chapters. And every day I think of the future scenes, the ones I haven't written yet. I can't write them, though. Because I'm stuck editing these crappy, badly written chapters. I have to improve them, make sure they're as great as they can be. It's frustrating work. But it's work I intend to get done.
