The year was 2035, and things were great for me. I had my loving wife Jenn and my dear friend Ryan, and a baby on the way. But that's all I had outside of the slow painful days at work. 

I lived in sector 1 out of 5, "the best" district one could live in. But from my experience all I've gotten were hateful glances and god awful stares that they would give the kindred. 

I was human too but dirt was the only meal anybody wanted to feed me. I didn't do anything to deserve this punishment bestowed upon me, but nevertheless I had to take it with a smile. 

Fifteen years before, a supposed apocalypse came to pass, wiping out millions upon billions of the earth's population. It wasn't some great god that brought humanity down to its knees, but a new species of a humanoid creature, the "kindred" as I mentioned earlier.

They rose up from the boiling earth looking nothing short of a demon from folklore. And they had their advantages, one being the fact that no mortal weapon could kill these fuckers, and their intelligence far surpassed ours. 

In what felt like an instant humanity was brought to the mercy of the kindred. But that was until someone interfered, until something else interfered. A new ally, the Pixi joined humanities last line of survival, bringing weapons and knowledge that can defeat the kindred. Humanity put this knowledge to use and created the districts, and forged us a path to some sense of normal. Then they all disappeared along with the kindred. And the threat was forgotten, but the stain of blood remained in everyone's hearts. 

I'm unfortunately lucky enough to live in the "best" district. Hated everywhere I go. Why though? Even I ask myself that.
