Bananas are yellow big fruits that grow from a banana tree. Bananas are actually berries, as opposed to blackberries, that are not berries and strawberries, that are not even fruit. Bananas have a particular curve, wich is caused during the growing process by the direction of the sunlight. the sunlight comes from the sky, so bananas try to curve up to get more light to grow. There are very many species of banana, some of wich have big black pits and very little flesh. these are mostly wild varieties and are not very tasty. It i very likely bananas were first cultivated for their fibres and not their fles. The bananas that you buy in supermarket are most likely the cavendish variety, as that is the most commonly eaten species. This was not always the case. Before the 1950s, gros michel, colloquially known as big mike, was the most eaten species of banana. This species had a particularly high concentration of isoamyl acetate. Other banana species also have this chemical in them, but much less of it. Banana flavouring was based on the gros michel banana species, so much of the taste of banana flavouring comes from isoamyl acetate. This is why banana flavouring tastes so weird. Sadly the cavendish banana species is currently threatened by a fungus specie that lives in the soil of the trees. The fungus is called the paramaribo disease. There might be not as much cavendish bananas anymore in the future. Bananas the flesh of bananas is made of three parts. If you push your finger in the top of the banana (after it has been peeled) it will split into three almost identical parts. There is a common story that monkeys eat bananas. This is not always true, because most wild monkeys do not have access to bananas. There was a study done with monkeys in captivity. This study concluded that monkeys did indeed like banana (more than for example nuts and bread). Monkeys do not open the banana in the way that most humans do it. Instead, most monkeys open the banana from the bottom. This is a way easier and more efficient method to unpeel a banana. As said earlier there are many species of banana. I will name a few in the list below:

* Ice cream banana

Ice cream bananas are also called blue java bananas and have a green/blue colored peel. They are grown in tropical areas (such as Hawaï) and their trees need to be planted in well irrigated soil. The banana has white flesh and has a sweet vanilla taste.

* Cavendish banana

This is the most commonly eaten banana. The peel is green when unripe, yellow when ripe and brown when overripe. The flesh is a yellowy white colour and taste like the taste you associate with banana ( unless you were born way before the 50s and associate banana taste more with banana flavouring). The banana trees need good sunlight and moderate water levels.

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

* Red banana

This banana has a red peel and white flesh. The banana has a sweet taste with a hint of sourness to it. The fruit is most commonly cultivated in Asia, South America, East Africa and the United Arab Emirates.

Bananas have a lot of heath benefits and are healthy for you to eat. Don’t eat to much of course, because around 400 bananas a day could kill you. You would get to much potassium, wich would stop your hart. Bananas are immensely popular fruit. The average U.S. citizen eat around 60 kilos of bananas per year and more than 96% of American households buy a banana at least once a month. Interestingly the banana tree, where the bananas grow out of, is not a tree. It is actually classified as a herb, distantly related to ginger. This is because the stem of the banana tree is not made of wood, but of fibres. You can not grow new banana trees by planting a banana in the ground. Most new banana trees are grown by cutting a piece of an adult trees. This means most bananas you eat are genetically very similar to each other. Before a banana tree grows bananas, it usually puts out around 40 leaves. Bananas actually have special terms to refers to groups of them. A single banana is called a finger. A grouping of attached "fingers" make up a "hand" of bananas. Multiple hands that grow in a cluster are called a bunch or stalk. A bunch usually contains 3 tot 20 hands of bananas. Bananas are eaten in a variety of ways. The more starchy plantains are usually cooked and the sweeter bananas are mostly eaten raw. Of course there exist thousands of recipes with bananas in them. It is truly amazing how much there is to make with bananas! The leaves of the banana tree are also widely used for wrapping food and sometimes even for storage. Banana skin can also help get ink of your skin or het lessen the irritation of a bug bite. Banana peels are also sometimes used for water purification, ethanol production and as fertiliser. The international Banana museum in California has around 17.000 artefacts and has the guinness world record for largest fruit themed collection. The scientific name of banana is musa sapientium, wich means the fruit of wise men. Bananas float in water, as do apples and watermelons. A man in India once ate 81 bananas in less than half and hour. Bananas get their characteristic yellow colour from ethylene, wich ripens the fruit. To much ethylene can make the banana turn brown. That’s why putting bananas in a sealed box can help ripen the bananas faster. Damaging the banana speeds up the ethylene production. This is the reason bananas get brown spots if you bruise it.  A man ran more than 2 hours in a banana costume during the London Marathon to secure the fastest time to run a marathon whilst wearing a fruit costume.

That were 1000 words about Bananas!
