Cold. Dark. Confused. These are the three things I felt as I awoke from my sleep. My back ached; my whole body ached. I was not sure where I was. I searched the room with my eyes and saw nothing but blank white walls. On one of the walls there was an analog clock that read 9:00. There was a Television on the wall directly in front of me. It sat up there. A simple black and lifeless screen. I tried to lift myself and winced in pain. I had an IV stuck in my arm, an Endotracheal tube in my nose but I had this distinct smell of sterilizer and bleach. I had this ventilator next to the bed except it was not hooked up to me. I was horrified. I tried my hardest to retrace what happened to get me to this point, but my mind was blank. I screamed out and my mother burst into the room, a panicked look on her face.
"What's wrong honey?! Do you need a nurse? Are you in any pain? Nurse! Medic! Somebody, anybody!" she yelled out in a hurried voice.
"Mom I'm fine, I'm okay really. You really should not stress so much mom. I'm just startled and confused as to what I'm doing here."
A skinny blonde nurse rushed in looking scared and asked, "Is everything all right? Should I send for the doctor? "No ma'am we're fine" my mother reassured her.
The nurse heaved a sigh of relief. "Mrs. Cunningham, make sure next time you have a legitement reason to call on us. We are terribly busy you know. I'm sure you understand." The nurse then plastered on a fake smile and proceeded to leave the room.
"Mom, can you explain what's going on here. Why am I here? What happened to me?" I asked as I started removing the tubes.
"Von! Those things keep you alive and stable. Please do not mess with them!"
"Fine, but can we leave now? I feel fine really." I sat up to put on my shoes.
"Honey, lay down. Get some rest. You get discharged today at 12. Your dad will be by to pick you up. I must get to work. I love you. Mwah Mwah."
She left out and I was left to figure things out for myself. I opened the drawer beside my bed and saw the remote control for the Television. I also saw some pencils, a little notepad, and some tissues in there. I turned on the T.V. It blared out some movie and I quickly turned it off feeling a little embarrassed to have caused the noise. A different nurse peeked her head in. She was older, looked more experienced.
"You okay in here darling?"
"Yes ma'am, sorry about the noise."

"Oh, don't worry about it. How long have you been here?"
"I'm not even sure myself. Maybe a few days. Weeks. All I know is I go home today at 12 noon." She walked into the room, closer to me now and sat on the bed.
"You must've been in a terrible accident son. You look pretty beat up."
"I feel fine though. Honest."
"Well, can I bring you anything?"
"No thank you ma'am. I didn't catch your name."
"I'm nurse Mabel. Nice seeing you," she said with a sweet smile.
"I'm Von. Nice seeing you too", I smiled back. She left the room and I decided to take a nap.
I woke up to my dad standing over me smiling.
"Finally awake I see", he says with a smile.
"Yeah, hey dad", I mutter half-asleep.
"I brought you some lunch. Hospital food doesn't sound all that appealing."
"Dad, I really just want to go home."
"Not so fast, the doctor still has to issue you a clean-bill of health to be able to discharge you."
"Dad, where's Lyric?"
"Lyric, oh um she...well she....and so...", he stammered.
"Dad...? Is she okay?" There was then a knock at the door and a light-skinned man with a gray beard appeared in the doorway. The name-card on his jacket reads Dr.Owens.
"Hey there! Sorry I'm a little late, busy day", he says with a warm smile.
"No problem, my son here is just a little anxious to get out of here."
"Well let's get you checked out there um Von? Is it?"
"It is. And sir, can you tell me how long I've been here?"
"Of course. It has been 2 weeks. Now let me check your heartbeat." He takes off his stethoscope and listens to my heartbeat. He then asks me to sit up and places a palm in the middle of my chest and the other in the middle of my back. He then asked me if I was experiencing headaches, migraines, stomach pains, chest pains, etc.
"Now inhale slowly and breathe out slowly." I do as told and feel a slight pain in the middle of my back.
"Any pains?"
I lie and say no. The sooner I get out of here, the better.
"Okay Von. Thats good considering the damage your body has endured! I have no doubt you can be discharged now. You have been suffering from internal bleeding. If at any time you have nausea and or vomiting, please come in immediately. Now, you also have a slight concussion, and your back is slightly fractured. I am going to send you along with a back brace and prescribe you ibuprofen. If you have any questions or pains, feel free to call and or stop by. I'm also going to schedule you for a Brain scope concussion test for next week."
"Thanks Dr.Owens," my dad says.
"Yeah, thanks Dr,Owens."
"No problem, no more fighting kid. Stay safe you guys."
No more fighting, what does he mean no more fighting. Was I in a fight? Was it to protect Lyric? Where is Lyric? Did I fight Elijah? Was I jumped? I began feeling dizzy as my dad helped me out of bed and into my clothes.
"What did he mean no more fighting dad? Who did I fight?"
"Come on Von, we've got to take you home. I want you to get plenty of rest. I took the rest of the day off so I could make sure everything is okay with you."
A few minutes later, Nurse Mabel came in with a wheelchair and I got into it. They wheeled me out to the car and helped me in.
"You be safe Von!" exclaimed Nurse Mabel.
"Thanks, you too Nurse Mabel!"
Dad went back in to make sure I did not leave anything behind.
When he came back, I asked him, "Dad where's my phone?"
"It's in evidence at the police station."
"Police Station?! Dad what's going on."
"I'll explain everything when we get home."
