On Planet Zi, 60,000 lightyears from Earth, siblings Aaron and Lidiya Rylos are Zoid warriors competing in Battle Commission approved tournaments. But their "Team Wildcards" is on the verge of collapse after hitting hard times, so when former Backdraft test pilot Scott Ronin comes along looking for a place on their team, they shelve their misgivings and hire him in the hope that he'll turn their fortunes around despite knowing that Ronin's Zoid, a second prototype Shadow Fox, was "liberated" from a Backdraft base that suffered a catastrophic failure in the chain of command. Now, Ronin has to come good for the team by winning in a tournament with a suspiciously large cash prize that's drawn far more competitors than the organizers ever expected, including one Zoid warrior who's even more desperate for that money than Team Wildcards, and she's going to do whatever it takes to win.
