Jack Landon is a philology student whose life changes after a new student joins his undergrads program classes: Aome Murakami. Aome is sweet and knows Jack from middle school, so he falls immediately in love with her. However, despite her interest, Aome is not willing to reveal a lot about her life and past to Jack, even after they become boyfriend and girlfriend. they have sex and their trust grows fonder to each other and keeps growing. She moves in with him, they start living life together and pursue their philology degrees more motivated than ever. Until she starts to open up about her past and stuff. She tells Jack about her parents history, her childhood love interest and some other seemingly not-dangerous-to-know information. After opening up, she seems to shine brighter for some weeks, but suddenly seems to fall into a deep, unknown to both of them, type of depression. She suddenly cannot move or wake up from sleep at all, and would try to harm herself even though she doesn't want to, as if she was... possessed. After Jack tries to convince her of getting professional help together and making love in what seemed to be a romantic-comeback to the beautiful couple they tought they were, when he wakes up she's gone. He finds no clue no matter how hard he looks for her whereabouts, until, during one of the classes both used to attend together, he finds a message taped to the back of the table's wood plate. Upon sight he knows its her, and it seems to have been left there after her disappearing, but the message breaks his heart upon reading: she's gone to kill herself by hanging herself up the Great Bent Oak where the butterflies hid during spring in Aome's childhood.
