Synopsis
After graduating high school, Sonny took a year off to decide what to do with his life. The year is up, and the answer is community college and that dreaded necessity, a job. Having always been interested in the logistics and psychology of grocery stores, a degree in supply chain management seems perfect. And when a new branch of the nationwide chain, Thaymark, a big box store and grocery store combined, opens near him, he eagerly applies. But working as a bag boy, or Courtesy Clerk, as management calls him, is far from fulfilling. And mysteries abound at Thaymark, starting with the building appearing practically overnight, and deepening as the store seems to sell more goods than it receives, coworkers go missing or undergo severe shifts in personality, and Sonny finds himself oddly empowered in the most useless of ways. Plus, he can't shake the feeling that every mirror in the store is WATCHING him, the bathroom mirror, the mirror in the breakroom, the large round mirrors mounted at the ends of aisles, and the anachronistic mirror that spreads across the entire front of the store.
