Peter and Nadia, like everyone in their society, are set to traverse the Gateway into the Beyond, where they have been promised immortality, on their 95th birthday. The day before their ceremony, Peter announces to Nadia that he doesn't believe the Beyond is real. They spend their last night on earth discussing his theories about what's really going on, and what that might mean.
