[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Life on Caltrox isn't easy. Every day is just a different battle for survival. After a world war destroyed most of the planet's development, the survivors were left to fend for themselves. What used to be a shining paradise became a harsh, unforgiving wasteland. Food can be toxic, and the water can turn poisonous without warning. Mutated beasts roam the landscape. Travel is slow and dangerous, and communication is limited. Leaving the planet is difficult, if not impossible for most. There is no central government. The armies have all fallen apart. The remaining population is scattered, hoping to eek out an existence for their own small group. This story follows several members of the Mending Generation - the grandchildren of those who survived the war. Fiona is fiesty. She is determined to make a name for herself, one way or another. (Primary focus currently.) Reed expects the worst, but will stay as long as the job holds her interest. (Occasional focus currently) Dani leads a privileged life until she makes a discovery that tugs at her conscience. (Will enter the story later) Each has a different path to walk, if they can survive the plots and schemes that surround them.
