V2 Chapter 24: Evening The Odds

“What the hell did you call me?” Deng Dandan said.

“I… uh…?” Yun Ip Chun said, turning his drooping eyes at her.

“You called me ‘my Dandan’, I’m not your Dandan you drunkard fool!” Dandan said.

Chun made to shoo her protest away before stepping in front of her, threatening to stumble a few times. “You poopies,” he pointed at Lei and the staff wielder, “prepare for a beating!”

Chun looked down as he reached the ground. He swayed uneasily. “Hey, why are there two grounds?” He then collapsed.

Dandan, Lei and the staff wielder looked at his prone body in bewilderment.

“Well, this is quite a strange way to die.” The staff wielder twirled her staff, causing fire to engulf it. “Sir, you’ll get the girl while I finish her off!” She charged at Dandan.

“Damn!” she said, rolling out of the way of one of her attacks just to be caught with the butt of the staff. She was sent rolling away. Dandan grimaced as she had a brief look at Lei, feeling along the ground for Xiu’s position.

The staff wielder came up to her view. She ducked on a hole, which was immediately flooded with fire. She popped up behind the staff wielder and reached for her, only to be hit with the butt of the staff.

She landed on the ground, coughing out blood before rolling over to dodge the follow up strike.

“Time to end this!” The staff wielder said, twirling her flaming staff about her before slamming it on the ground, sending a wave of fire at Dandan.

Dandan once again constructed a hasty wall to protect her but as the fire parted on either side of her, when it vanished, the staff wielder appeared behind her.

“Now die!” she screamed as she swung her staff for Dandan’s head. That is until a shield hit her staff, throwing her off.

The staff wielder looked at the circular shield in bewilderment.

“Hey, girlie!”

The staff wielder glared at the owner of the voice and Lei stopped at his tracks to also look at the voice.

Wang Zen smirked at them and behind him was old man Xiu. “I said, hey girlie, give me ,my shield back.”

The staff wielder foamed at the mouth at being called ‘girlie’. So angered she was that she did not notice Dandan escape into a hole only to appear beside Zen.

“About damn time you show up!” Dandan said.

“I came as soon as Old Man Xiu told me.” Zen said.

“My daughter…” Old Man Xiu said in a shaky voice, “where is she.”

“Somewhere underground.” Dandan said. “She’s probably about to run out of air. We need to end this fight now.”

Zen looked at Chun’s body, his eyes widened in horror. “Did they kill Yun Ip Chun?”

Dandan scoffed. “No, that drunken fool passed out before he could even fight.”

“Great, seems its you and me, Old Man Xiu.”

“I’m ready!” the old man said, taking a fighting stance.

“I’m not out of this fight yet!” Dandan said, struggling to her feet. “You take care of the staff girl, I’ll deal with Lei.”

“Deng Dandan, you’re poisoned, you won’t last lo…”

Dandan produced a dark, aromatic pill from her person, the smell of leafy foliage wafted out. She popped it in her mouth and swallowed.

Zen recognised the medicinal pill. “That’s a…”

“Vitality Pill.” Dandan said. “The Captain gave it to me. It was her last but because she knew I’d be taking on Lei, she thought it would be a good idea I have it. Seems she was right.”

Zen nodded. “Though I think I should take on Lei.” He said. “He is the most dangerous here and you’re not exactly at a 100%, even with the Vitality Pill.”

“No, I’m the strongest of us here, so I’ll taker him on.” She insisted. “You can help me pummel his smug face if you get done with the staff wielder quickly but considering you’re a boy, I suspect that will be possible.”

Zen smirked, “Okay, I’ll take care of girlie quickly.”

“Oh yeah, and congratulations.” Dandan said, before charging at Lei, leaving Zen to face the staff wielder alone.

“So, you think you can make quick work of me?” she said, glaring at Zen.

Zen nodded, touching his storage stone. A long chained weapon appeared in a flash of yellow light, its bulbous ball clanking on the ground.

“That…” The staff wielder said, her eyes widened in surprise. “You stole that meteor hammer from my comrade!”

“Well, he was not going to miss it, on the account that he was dead when I took it.” Zen began to twirl the weapon above his head as he approached her. “Now, how about we get this on? Bo staff against meteor hammer!"
