CHAPTER 48: A MEETING ON THE WAY TO A SUMMONS

Zen was walking through the campus grounds. The courier had told him that Lu Daomeng had summoned him. He wanted to see Zen before classes officially began, which caused Zen some confusion.

As he walked, he approached a bench with someone familiar sitting there. The boy was looking at Zen, pointedly as he approached. Zen could see his and Shibi’s image in his round shades, growing bigger as he neared.

“Hue Yi?”

“Zen’er, you’re up early.”

“Yeah, I was summoned.” Zen said.

“You sure get in trouble easily, huh?”

Zen stopped before Hue Yi, his hands on his hips. “What’s that suppose to mean?”

“I heard about your little foray into the girl’s bathhouse.” Hue Yi smirked mischievously.

“Does-Does everyone know about that already?”

“They will soon,” Hue Yi said. “I only know about it because Xu Hau came to see me last night. She was fuming and asked that I give her your name and everything I know about you.”

Zen felt his fear rising, “You didn’t, did you?”

Hue Yi kept quiet.

“You-You did!” Zen was in disbelief.

“I never said I did,” Hue Yi said.

“Why?” Zen pressed, knowing that Hue Yi was lying. After a moment he realised something, it was obvious now that he thought about it. “You like her, that’s why!”

“Keep your voice down,” Hue Yi said.

“You like her… even though she has a boyfriend?”

“Hao Meng is simply a footnote,” Hue Yi assure. “She’ll grow bored of him.”

“I can’t believe this,” Zen said, now pacing nervously. “You chose to help a girl you like by giving her information about your friend?”

“Friend?” Hue Yi repeated incredulously. “I hope you’re not talking about yourself, Zen’er. Even calling us acquaintances would be a bit of a stretch.”

“What? After all we’ve been through? What do you mean?”

“Well, true friends invite other friends when they have a foray into the girl’s bathhouse.” Hue Yi said.

“B-But, that was an accident!”

“Sure~” Hue Yi said. “You know, I had a friend once, who dropped out in our third year at Goixi. We would always accidently go into the girl’s bathhouse but we’d make sure to invite each other when an accident like that was eminent, so neither of us got left out.”

“You mean you guys spied on the girls in the bathhouse,” Zen said. “Man, it sounds like you and your friend were perverts.”

“You’re only a pervert when you get caught,” Hue Yi said as if he was a professor in the subject, “meaning you’re the pervert here.”

“Anyways, can you talk to her?” Zen said. “Assure her I’m not a bad guy.”

He shook his head. “I’ve known Xu Hau for years now and I’ve learned when she gets like this, she doesn’t stop until she has blood… or something she feels is equivalent.” Hue Yi rose from the bench and began walking away. “My advice, stay down and apologise a lot and you may survive what’s coming.”

“’What’s coming?’” Zen repeated to himself. “Hey Hue Yi, can I ask you something?”

Hue Yi stopped, not bothering to look back behind him at Zen.

“Did you make a Bingo Card on me?” Zen asked and continued when Hue Yi did not answer, “Can-Can I see it?” Zen was both worried and intrigued about a Bingo Card on himself. He had seen the information Hue Yi would collect on targets and he wanted to see how he fared in the older boy’s eyes.

Hue Yi looked back, his dark glasses catching a glint from the sun. “Well that’s a dumb question. If I did make a Bingo Card on you, you’d be the last person I’d show it to.”
