Synopsis
VIP Refugees is the ongoing story of one family’s journey across 18 months and 100,000s of miles—and counting—without a country to call home.
To stop the kidnapping of their oldest three daughters, Elissa and Paul must find a way to leave the U.S. and rescue them from their West African homeland. They must then find countless ways to keep their family together and safe, from the youngest at 2 to the oldest at 12.
Behind them—wealthy, vengeful pursuers who believe that a mother should never have custody of her children, no matter what the law says. Ahead of them—a tortuous U.S. legal immigration system whose laws guarantee that no one knows if or why or when their visa may ever come. In between—a family never settled, forced to move across the years and across dozens of countries. As they overcome disaster, disease, and death, they find new life and love in unity, persevering together against all odds.
But will any of it ever be enough for these VIP Refugees to finally find a home?
