Is the system really a friend or a foe? Sariel has no memory of who he is or where he came from, but in a city that views him as a monster in human form, he knows one thing for sure: he doesn't belong. Unable to prove his identity or have his level read, he becomes an outcast, scorned and shunned, finding it nearly impossible to survive. He becomes a hunter. Sariel has a sentient system, one that speaks to him, offers him powers, and seems far too helpful to be trusted. The system's gifts come with costs, forcing Sariel to pay a price for each gift he accepts. Surrounded by dangers on all sides, many of which seem to have a sinister interest in him, Sariel must use the system's powers to grow stronger.
