Synopsis
Prologue
Samuel Hartley never imagined his life would end so abruptly. One moment, he was crossing a busy street, his mind buzzing with engineering schematics for a new project. The next, a blaring horn and a flash of light consumed his senses. Pain surged through him, and then there was nothing.
When Samuel awoke, it was to an alien sensation: the chill of rough stone beneath him, the acrid smell of unwashed bodies, and the murmur of unfamiliar voices. Disoriented, he blinked against the dim light, trying to make sense of his surroundings. A crude wooden ceiling loomed overhead, and as he struggled to sit up, he realized his body felt... different. Younger, yet still weary."Baron Aerys, you're awake!" a voice exclaimed. Samuel turned to see a gaunt man in tattered clothing, eyes wide with a mixture of fear and relief."Who?" Samuel rasped, his voice foreign to his ears. The man’s expression faltered. "You... you don't remember? You fell from your horse, my lord. You've been out for days."Samuel’s mind raced, piecing together fragments of information.
He was no longer in his world. Somehow, he had become this Baron Aerys, a figure clearly known and feared in this place. He looked down at his hands, calloused and scarred, so unlike his own. Panic threatened to overwhelm him, but he forced himself to breathe, to think."Where am I?" he asked, fighting to keep his voice steady. The man hesitated. "In your manor, my lord. In the barony of Tyrol."Samuel – no, Vernon Aerys – nodded slowly. He needed time to understand this world, to learn its ways. But as he gathered his thoughts, fragments of memories began to surface, painting a bleak picture. Vernon Aerys was a notorious drunkard, despised by his subjects, a pawn in the games of the powerful church and nobility.
The days that followed were a whirlwind of discovery. Vernon had inherited a land crippled by ignorance and oppression, a people broken by poverty and fear. Yet, amidst the decay, Samuel – Vernon – saw potential. He saw the opportunity to apply his knowledge, to bring light to this dark world. But first, he needed allies.
He needed to prove to those around him that he was not the man they once knew. He would build trust, starting with small changes, small victories. And as he stood at the window of his dilapidated manor, gazing at the sprawling lands beyond, he vowed to transform Tyrol. He would create a kingdom where knowledge and justice reigned, no matter the cost.
For Samuel Hartley was gone, but Vernon Aerys had a second chance. And he would not squander it.
Note: English is not my first language so I use AI to make my thoughts into cohesive sentences. I also use other tools like grammarly and quilbot. I made sure to guide the AI though in every sentences and paragraphs and only publish proofread chapters.
I actually like to read than to write but what prompt me to write is due to the scarcity of Kingdom building novels and books and that updates are slow. I'm only bored and can't wait for the slow updates so I write instead.
I am not sure if I could finish writing this novel as I am not an expert myself. I only took inspiration from novel writers of the same genre. You might think I don't have originality but let's be honest, most of the Kingdom Building novel writers took ideas and inspiration from "Release That Witch" and "Destiny's Crucible Series." I'm not sure if I can pull this out but hopefully I can.
