In 1890 Kentucky Cassius Durand, a doctor out in the hills of Appalachia was on the top of the world; His wife was due to give birth any day now, and his clinic was thriving. One night his wife and unborn child were found mangled just outside of his clinic. He swears he saw some strange creature slinking off into the darkness of the woods.   Having fallen to the devil's drink following his wife's death, Cassius’ clinic had fallen to the wayside after the locals began to accuse him of murdering his wife. Cassius believed this creature was a demon who took his wife away, but the others around simply believed he had gone mad in grief after having done such unspeakable things to her. One day a strange man comes into town and gives him a cryptic message to find one of the witches out in the woods. In his drunken grief, he follows the man's instructions and finds the strange woman's home. The witch offers him salvation, the ability to have his revenge for the loss of his wife, and the possibility to revive them should he gain enough power. Cassius in his drunken state strikes a deal with the strange witch. This deal lifted the veil of reality for Cassius, allowing him to see beyond the façade of the mortal coil that once bound him. Now he must hunt demons deep in the Appalachia, hoping to see his wife and child again and save his mortal soul. Standing in his way are others seeking the same bounties, lesser beasts that plague the mountains of Appalachia, and the witch's own motives.
