Synopsis
Long ago, I created three powerful deities, each with dominion over a different element: Earth, Wind, and Water. I thought appointing three gods to oversee the elements would bring balance to the world, but it was not to be. The god of Earth advertised to hold the power of the land, the god of Wind boasted to give air to all lifeforms, and the god of Water declared that without it, life could not exist. They could never agree on whose powers were superior, despite their unique abilities.
I knew that this would cause devastating effects down the line, so I created a power source, which I named mana, that limited the gods' control over their respective domains, and forced them to cooperate with one another. They could not simply overwhelm each other with their own abilities, but had to work together to maintain balance on the Earth.
The gods begrudgingly accepted this new state of affairs, but I could see in their eyes that they were still plotting and scheming against one another. Mortals learned to harness this mana to access the powers of the gods. However, as with all things, Mortals learned to harness this mana to access the powers of the gods. Mortals soon became greedy and used their newfound abilities for personal gain. The gods, now limited by the mana, could do nothing to stop them, and thus the balance I had hoped to instill was lost.
At this point, I feel that I have worked too long, and will leave them to sort themselves out. As for me, I think I'll take a nap. Wake me up when the humans and the gods figure it all out.
