Chapter 2- The Undead.

Chapter 2- The Undead.

My vision slowly started to brighten, a horizon appeared, trees started to grow, mountains started to form, time went quickly, showing the creation of the world as villages were made, the NPCs, monsters, and bosses were created all, the kingdoms were born and we saw empires rise and fall, then it all ended.

The next moment I was standing in a hallway, then I heard an indistinct voice.

"Welcome, You will be given a set amount of races and classes to choose from, The types of races and classes will be random and will be ranked from common - legendary, higher ranked classes will be available for selection when they have been unlocked in-game, feel free to ask any questions if you don't understand, before anything can start, you will need to choose a name."

"Invictus" I replied certain of the name I chose, it has been the same throughout all the games I have played.

I know most of the basic information such as items, classes and races being ranked as common, uncommon, rare, epic, legendary, for now since it appears that they have already added more to the game or maybe they were in the game all along but they've kept it a secret for some reason, either way, I'll find out soon what the reason is.

Suddenly a wheel spin appeared and I heard that voice again "Pull the lever and find out the 1st of 7 classes you can choose from."

'May as well pull it, not like it'll change anything' Saying that, I realized that everything will be changed based on what I get from my lucky spins, so I just pulled it, watched it spin and waited for the AI to tell me what I got.

"Congratulations, you have unlocked BladeMaster (Rare), allow me to first give you an in-depth explanation on what stats are and what stats this class will use as its main attributes. Please note that you can assign your stat points into whatever you want and you will not necessarily be required to follow the main attributes."

The AI continued.

Strength(STR) "Main stat for most melee classes and some ranged classes, required for certain weapons to be equipped, affects damage given." Endurance(END) "Main stat for some melee classes, affects HP (Health Points) and HP Regeneration." Agility(AGI) "Main stat for some melee classes and some range classes, affects attack speed and movement speed." Intelligence(INT) "Main stat for most mage classes, some melee classes, and some ranged classes, affects magic damage and MP (Mana Points)." Wisdom(WIS) "Secondary stat for most magic classes and utility stat for some ranged/melee classes, affects magic resistance and MP regeneration." Luck(LUK) "Extremely useful, the only way to upgrade it is through system/world/regional announcements, hidden quests or as a reward for performing meritious deeds, affects everything, mainly crit chances, drop rates, chest loot, NPC behaviour towards you etc."

"Continuing on from that, the BladeMaster class uses the Strength and Agility as its main attributes and Endurance as its secondary, all other attributes are not necessary, depending on how you develop the character. Please note that most of these are generic and as such may not use all the potential a class may have."

After that was said, a grid appeared next to the wheel spin and it went into the 1st slot.

"Choose, you can either draw all 6 classes at once now but only spin the wheel once, or spin each of them separately, I will still provide information on each class based on what you get."

I decided to spin them all at once and watch it unfold, I expected it to spin them separately but one after another, instead, 6 more wheels appeared and they all started to spin.

"Congratulations, You have unlocked the following classes:"

BladeMaster (Rare) "The main stats are Str and Agi as its main attributes and End as its secondary, depending on how you develop the character." Pyromancer (Uncommon) "The main stats are Int and Wis, with End or Agi as the secondary attributes." Necromancer (Epic) "The main stats are Int and Wis, with either of the other 3 stats as secondary depending on playstyle." Beast Tamer (Legendary) "The main stats are Int and Agi or Str and End, with Wis as secondary depending on playstyle." Undead Soldier (Rare) (Evolvable) "One of the many different evolvable classes, Main and Secondary stats are unknown, Playing this character will automatically enter you into the undead army, evolves based on certain conditions." Kingdom Strategist (Legendary) "Main stats consist of Int and Wis, Str, End or Agi can be used as secondary stats based on your playstyle." Warrior (Common) "Main stats are Str and End with Agi as secondary, depending on your playstyle."

After the Ai finished explaining all the stats for the classes I got curious, what was an evolvable class? something the ranks up as you play it? or do you change classes to another like a hidden class when you level up? what types of conditions do they require, special materials? killing certain monsters etc? Before I could ask a question I head the AI again.

"You can choose your class now or later, I would advise you to choose later as you could create possible synergies between Races and classes."

"I'll choose later, but I'm curious about the evolvable class, can you explain?" I said whilst preparing myself to digest a large amount of information.

"Nope, you will have to find out if you select it, I can give you information on other classes apart from Legendary and Evolvable classes, of course, the names pretty much explain the others."

After the AI said that another wheel spin appeared in front of me and I questioned: "I take it this time it's for the Races?"

"Yes, you can either draw them all at the same time or separately, choose." The Ai responded.

"I'll do same as last time and draw all at the same time." I responded as I pulled down the lever.

"Congratulations You have received the following races:"

Beastman (Rare) "Starts with a bonus to Str and End, recommended use; Any Melee Classes." Lich (Epic) "Starts with a bonus to Wis, Str, and End, recommended use; Black Magic Classes." Undead Skeleton (Rare) "Starts with a heavy bonus to Agi and a small bonus to Str, recommended use; Melee Classes." Dark Elf (Legendary) "Starts with a bonus to Agi and Str, recommended use; Thief classes." Human (Common) "Starts with a bonus to Int and Wis, Recommended use; Magic Classes." Wood Elf (Uncommon) "Starts with a bonus to Int and Ahi, Recommended use; Ranged classes." Golem (Epic) "Starts with a heavy bonus to End and Str with a reduction of Agi, Recommended use; Melee classes."

"All classes have been drawn, now you will have to choose between the class and race you want, keep in mind that you will have a free wheel spin to determine what your innate ability will be and this will neither be restricted by race or class, that is unless you want it to be, if so an option will appear and you can choose then." The Ai said whilst looking at me with what seemed to be an annoyed yet patient gaze.

"What bonuses will I receive if I get a synergy between my class and race? and what races and classes synergize." I asked while pondering between classes and races, but I already had a feeling about what I will be going with.

"The bonuses go as followed; +1 stat point per level for a basic synergy, which basically means does the class suit the race, almost everyone will achieve this. Next Advanced synergy, which involves the player itself, does the player suit the class and race, does the playstyle work effectively and efficiently, as you can already guess this isn't achievable in any short period of time and this will give + 2 stat points per level. Finally Perfect synergy, all of the before and more, but what it is that is required will have to be found out by you, the player, no shortcuts, as for reward, that's something you'll find out if you achieve it as every reward for perfect synergy is different, the classes that synergize, I can't tell you that, but its obvious you've thought of some." The Ai said as it gazed into the distance, wondering whether or not someone will achieve perfect synergy.

"Okay, I'll choose, Undead Soldier as my class and Undead Skeleton as my race." I said after pressing confirm.

The system turned to look at me and said sarcastically "Guess what? You've achieved basic synergy, who knew. Anyway back to the game, a Wheel will appear after you choose whether you want your ability class and race-related or not."

The wheel appeared and I clicked to confirm to align it with my class but not my race and then I spun with everything I had.

After waiting 2 minutes it finally stopped, granting me my innate ability.

Innate Ability: Gain 1.5x Contribution Points

I looked at my innate ability and asked, "Hey, AI 2 questions, First, whats your name and what is a Contribution point?"

"I don't have a name as I have basic intelligence and I was solely created for helping people make their characters although more and more of us are being upgraded so I may appear in the game at some point" The Ai responded with a slight smile on his face.

"As for your second question that's easy, you are an Undead Soldier, you will have to complete quests for the Undead King and he will reward you with contribution points which you can spend on anything you like. Now it's my turn, do you require anything else? or are you prepared to go move onto the newbie village to start your adventure" The Ai asked.

I looked straight at the Ai and confirmed that I want to move onto the Newbie Village "Yes, I am prepared to move onto the village." After saying that a message popped up in front of his face.

Because you have chosen an undead class, you are unable to select the location in which you spawn at and will be directly transferred to the army where you can receive your basic training.

After reading it I understood, certain classes and races will have certain restrictions, 'I wonder if I had chosen another race that wasn't undead when I chose Undead Solider as my class, maybe it would have restricted me and forced me to choose either another class or race, in that case maybe receiving undead soldier as a class made it so one of my races would be guaranteed to be undead.' After thinking about it, my vision went black as I was transferred to the army camp.

Soon after that everything became bright, it took me a while for my eyes to adjust to the brightness, then I heard a voice from behind me.

"We've got another one" After hearing that I turned around to see a skeleton which seemed to be wearing heavy armor which seemed to be from some kind of black metal.

Before I finished my thoughts he walked up to me and asked "So what class are you, newbie? Based on what you got will determine where you will go."

"I've got the Undead Soldier class" I replied.

"Alright, you can be anything, what weapon do you want to use?" After the unknown skeleton asked me that question another message popped up.

Please choose your weapon carefully, the weapon you choose will determine what corp of the army you will join. Please Select one of the following: One Handed-Sword Two Handed-Sword Two Handed-Battle-axe Bow and Arrow Javalin Magic Staff

Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.

I took a good couple of minutes deciding what type of weapon I would use before responding.

 "I'll take the One Handed-Sword." I replied.

He walked up to me, handed me a sword and said: "Alright, you see that tent over there?" He pointed towards a large tent that covered a good couple of hundred yards, the walls of the tent were white while the tips were a dark bloody red, as if it had been to war with the soldiers and had seen countless battles.

"Yes, is that where I'm headed off to?" I replied.

"Yep, it's huge, so if you do get lost then you probably shouldn't be here, after all getting lost finding the tent is like getting lost finding the battlefield." Before I could ask him what that meant, he left, walking towards a large tent in the other direction. That was when I noticed on his back was a large Two-Handed Sword and then I realized that he was a part of a different corp.

I headed off towards the massive tent, passing many smaller tents which looked like they could still hold over 50 people each.

Before arriving, I took a quick look at my status, whilst thinking 'Luckily you don't need to say anything in this game and you can check everything just by thinking about it.'

Name:  Invictus  Level: 1 (0/100)   HP (Regen): 100 (0.25%/s) Stamina (Regen): N/A (N/A)  Mana (Regen): 100 (0.5%/s)   Strength:  12  Endurance: 10   Agility: 17  Intelligence: 10 Wisdom: 10 Luck: 5

'That doesn't seem to be right,' I thought to myself and decided to ask for an admin, or think because you don't need to say the names of the menus, just think about them.

"What can I do for you?" An AI appeared behind me.

"My stamina, N/A means what exactly? That I can't run?" I asked.

"Nope, it means your class doesn't require stamina, look at you, you're dead, you think dead people can get tired or something?" The AI said disdainfully and disappeared.

'Well, why didn't the game just say so, although being an info broker I should've known about it.' I thought before carrying on walking.

Finally arriving at the massive tent, It was huge. When you get close up you can't even see the end of it, only from far distances can you truly appreciate the time it took to make this.

I walked inside and saw a receptionist, I knew this because it literally said receptionist on the desk, I walked up to the receptionist who had his back to me and asked: "Can I register here?"

The receptionist turned around, surprisingly he wasn't undead like the rest of the people around here.

"Yeah sure, just fill out this form and you can join." The receptionist said after he gave me the form.

I looked down at the form to read it and there was 1 box, so I filled it out.

Name: Invictus

Turning back to the receptionist that was looking at me I said "Really? My name, that's it? Ahh, whatever."

The receptionist took the form, gave me a medal and said "Congratulations, try not to die again." turned around and walked off.

I picked up the medal, traced my fingers around the corners, it was similar to a Silver Cross, but made with some kind of black metal, what seems to be the same as that persons armor from before and the edges were all jagged, doing this, I gained the skill inspection.

Skill Gained: Inspection Lv. 1 Inspection, Gives you relative information about entities based on the level.

Undead Medallion

Rank: Undead Soldier (One-Handed Sword)

Medallion Lv: 1

Undead Contribution Points: 10

Before I could do anything I received another pop-up.

Congratulations on successfully joining the undead army, you will be given numerous tasks to complete as basic training, these tasks will all be random and you will be given the chance to decline a quest if you are not able to complete it, but be careful declining certain quests for certain people can affect the relations between yourself and that person. Also, if you decline quests that were given to you by the Undead King, will result in you losing contribution points (Amount will be specified based on the task) and the Undead King will be less likely to hand out tasks to you for a certain period of time (Based on the type of task you refused.)

I read through the pop-up, realizing that most of my time will be spent completing tasks for the army, soon after that I received my first task.

Gather wood from the forest and deliver it to Undead Necromancer Vedhur The Renewer  (0/100) (Quest Giver: Vedhur The Renewer)

Reward: 50 Contribution Points, 50 Exp.

Do you wish to accept? (Upon accepting you will be given Woodcutters axe and Map.)

'Accept' I said inside my head, then another pop-up happened to confirm my decision.

You have been given Woodcutters axe and Map,

Quest Completion 0% (0/100).

I looked at the map. I was located inside the Wisea Empire, which was divided into 5, 4 kingdoms, North, East, South, West each had a Kingdom and in the middle was the Empires main territory. I was located in the Western kingdom called the Erilum Kingdom.

Currently, I was inside the Capital city, called the City of the Dead, although there was that 1 non-undead receptionist, The city was surrounded by many things, on the northern side of the city there were huge mountains making it impossible for people to attack the city from that side, in the other 3 directions it was covered by forest, on the southside though was a road that was made going through the forest.

I was located on the west side of the city, so I headed to the west gate, I looked around at the many different types and sizes of shops, I saw 2 blacksmiths of which 1 was 2 stories whilst the other was 3, 3 tailors all of which were only 1 story tall, 1 alchemist shop which was a whopping 5 stories tall, a strange ominous tower which seemed to be heavily guarded and numerous houses, which undead seemed to be coming and going from, all the houses seemed like apartments and there was never more than 1 undead coming and going from the houses at the same time, by the time I had finished looking at the surroundings, I had already reached the gate.

The gatekeeper was a 3-meter tall undead, wearing what seemed to be that black metal armor, but this time it seemed to be mixed with some kind of golden metal, making it look more luxurious and threatening.

I walked up to the gatekeeper and asked: "How do I exit the city?" To which he responded "Present your medallion, if you don't have one go get one from the looks of it, you should be a One-Handed Sword user, which means you turn around and go to that massive tent in the middle with the red tips, can't miss it, even if you were miles away."

I took out my medallion and gave it to him whilst saying "Thanks, but I already have my medallion."

After he finished analyzing the medallion he gave it back to me and said "Working for a necromancer huh? Well, good luck to you anyway."

After he said that I inspected my medallion again, this time it showed me my mission.

Undead Medallion

Rank: Undead Soldier (One-Handed Sword)

Medallion Lv: 1

Undead Contribution Points: 10

Current Quest: Collect Wood 0% (0/100) (Quest Giver: Vedhur The Renewer)

After inspecting it I walked towards the closest tree, took the axe out and started hacking away at the tree, after cutting down what seemed to be a  5-6 meter tall tree my quest updated and wooden logs appeared inside my inventory.

Undead Medallion

Rank: Undead Soldier (One-Handed Sword)

Medallion Lv: 1

Undead Contribution Points: 10

Current Quest: Collect Wood 33% (33/100) (Quest Giver: Vedhur The Renewer)

Going to the next tree I did the same, cut the tree down, watched my quest progress, looked in my inventory and moved on, moving to the last tree, I started hacking away at it until it fell down, watching my quest complete itself.

Quest Completed.

Collect Wood 100% (100/100) (Quest Giver: Vedhur The Renewer)

Rewards: 50 Contribution Points, 50 Exp

I took out my medallion and Inspected it again.

Undead Medallion

Rank: Undead Soldier (One-Handed Sword)

Medallion Lv: 1 (1/20)

Undead Contribution Points: 60

Current Quest: None

I guess for every quest I complete the Medallion will level up, probably giving me something hopefully useful to me, not to mention that I automatically get the quest rewards, saving me time walking everywhere to complete a quest.

Name:  Invictus  Level: 1 (50/100) (50%)  HP (Regen): 100 (0.25%/s) Stamina (Regen): N/A (N/A)  Mana (Regen): 100 (0.5%/s)   Strength:  12  Endurance: 10   Agility: 17  Intelligence: 10 Wisdom: 10 Luck: 5

I decided to walk around the forest for a while, after all, the only thing for me to do right now is waiting for my next quest to arrive... Thinking about I just realized, Contribution points, I haven't checked out the shop yet, I don't know what I can get from it, although I doubt I'll be able to afford anything with only 60 contribution points.

After pondering about it for a while, I decided to complete more quests, when I get a small trove of contribution points then I'll go check out what I can purchase, after all, I need to go all the way back to that tent as the store for One-Handed undead is there and that's quite the distance from here, not to mention my next quest will probably need me to go back outside the city so I'll be making a round trip, probably buy nothing and waste time.

10 minutes after wandering around the edges of the forest I received my second quest.

Quest Received;

Kill 5 wolves.

Reward: 100 Contribution Points, 75 Exp.

(Quest Giver: Undead Commander Vark)

Would you like to accept?

Well, it seems as if I'll be needing to move more into the middle of the forest, at least to find wolves I'd assume that they would be in the forest.

I accepted the quest, which was added to my medallion, equipped my beginner One-Handed Sword and headed into the forest.

One-Handed Sword (Beginner - No Grade)

Attack Damage: 10

Speed Value: 0.75

Inside the forest was supprising peaceful, there was a light green tint in the forest as the sun rays hit the leaves, all the trees were huge, 9-10 meters tall, the diameter of the trees were a good 3-4 ft.

After walking for around 10 minutes, I encountered my first wolf pack, this pack consisted of 3 wolves, not enough for me to finish my quest in 1 go, but hopefully enough for me not to die already, I started to slowly sneak up to the wolves, getting within a trees distance towards them, then I suddenly jumped performing a downward slash.

- 25

Skill Gained: Downward Slash Lv: 1

Performs a slash heading downwards.

Damage: 25-40

Mana: 10

Cooldown: 2 Seconds.

I then went to inspect the wolf to determine the statistics.

Adult Wolf Lv: 3

Health: 75/100

Attack: 15

Defense: 10

Noticing the attack and defense and the fact that I managed to perform 25 damage I was slightly stunned although looking back at the fact that dealing 25 damage was the lowest possible brought me down from my high horse.

The wolves took a second to react, then they started to run after me, so I started to run further away into the forest, after a while I lost 2 of the wolves, only to be left with what seemed to be the fastest.

Adult Male Wolf Lv:4

Health: 115/115

Attack: 20

Defense: 15

I slowly stopped running, looking around, the forest was slightly darker than before and the wolf pounced on me, I sidestepped to the side and performed the downward slash, successfully hitting the wolf.

-34.

Hitting I took this chance to perform a normal attack, although it didn't do that much damage, it was helpful.

-9

Just over a 1/3 of its health in damage was done in 2 hits, before I could perform another downward slash, the wolf turned around and bit me.

- 32.

It took 1/3 of my health, the only difference being that it did it in 1 hit and it took me 2.

I continued dodging and slashing the wolf until it was finally killed, then a pop-up happened.

Adult Male Wolf Killed

Contribution Points + 5, Undead Wolf Soul Gained.

Quest Progress:  20%/100% (1/5)
