While standing guard with Riki I check my Interface. My attributes increased when I killed that five-tailed fox. Since then it didn’t rise a single bit.

There was nothing hostile during my travel through the forest. After I exited the forest I came before that goddamned desert. And during my two years travel through that place I couldn’t train at all.

But worst of all was my little world tree well not so little now that it grew up to five meters tall. Was almost dried when I was in that desert.

Only when I exited that desert and came to place with enough energy did my world tree came back to life.

As for my egg it is still same as always in my fourth door. As for the other tenant of my fourth door, that little guy been hibernating for four years.

But I think he is evolving more than hibernating. When I first met him, he was as white as his mother but now his fur is getting darker by the day.

If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement.

And I feel he will wake up soon now that I came to a place with enough energy.

Thanks to my third door I managed to come up with a few new spells even without mana. Now all I need is something to experiment on.

Even though Riki said that he will stay awake with me he is sleeping right now. I suppose he was tired after that fight.

Well, it’s not like I want to kill them.

So, they finally decided to try their luck huh? I sense a few something around us. Even though we are in a plain ground I can’t see them. I can still feel them though.

“Hey dude, wake up.”

I shake Riki awake.

“There is something hostile near.”

“Those would be Vanishing Scales.”

“The hell is that?”

“Snakes that can blend in with their surroundings.”

That is problematic.

“Wake the others.”

He goes into tents to wake up the others. Soon others come out of their tents. And stand back to back.

“Any way to detect them?”

“They can’t camouflage themselves if there is a light.”

After saying that Riki lights up a torch and hands them to others. I cast five fireballs and make them hover around me, illuminating the surroundings.

And I see the so called, Vanishing Scales. Big snakes. About five four meters long with interchanging scales. So, they are similar to chameleons then.

I think there are about dozens of them around here. Right now, there are five of them in front of me. Hissing at me with killing intent. On in front lunges at me after coiling. I can see its venomous fangs dripping with venom.

I block its bite with my gauntlet and crushes it bucket like head with my other hand. Others attack me while I was taking care of the first one. Just as they got in range I cast one of my new spells.

They hit something after they got in range. Barrier. I will my mana to take a shape of a shield around me. And since this shield is made out of normal mana it is transparent. After they bit my shield I change its shape and will to take a shape of spiked barrier. Making spikes jut out of my shield, skewering the snakes’ heads. They fall dead.

After taking care of the five that attacked me quickly I watch the others fight the snakes.

Since they are holding a torch snakes are visible. I don’t see Riki but I can sense him circling around the snakes. Tank and Artas are tanking in the front, and Lina is hurling fireballs at the snakes but failing to hit them.

As for priest Elaine she is giving two in the frontline some kind of protection. I think it has an antivenom effect.

While they are distracting the enemies, Riki circled behind the snakes and closes in on the snake that is farthest back.

After attacking snakes get back in position and lunges at the tanks again. After failing its attack snake gets back in position.

As it coils up and prepares for its next attack Riki quietly appears behind it and decapitates it. after doing the deed Riki vanishes into thin air again.

Even though other four snakes noticed their comrade’s demise they fail to catch Riki. So, they continue to attack others. While they got distracted by their comrade’s death Lina manages to hit one of the snakes with her fireball in its head, killing it.

Now there is three more snakes left.

Since they got a breathing room Artas and Tank starts to attack instead of just defending. And just as they start to engage the two snakes, Riki appears behind the last one and decapitates that one too.

After that other two easily manage to dispose the remaining two snakes too.

They are way too inefficient. It took me fifteen seconds to take care of five snakes. And it took them five minutes to do the same.

“Alder do you need he…”

After dispatching the snakes Riki looks to me and stops mid-sentence.

“I don’t think I do.”

“You killed them all by yourself already?”

Lina asks me with incredulous expression.

“I think I did. Is there a problem with that?”

“There is no problem. It’s just you killed them so fast and alone. That is not something easy. Their venom is extremely fatal. One bite you kick the bucket.”

“Well then it is a good thing that I didn’t get bitten, right?”

“Yes, it is.”

“I don’t think there is anymore danger around here. You guys can go to sleep.”

Others go into their tents. Riki stays.

“Thank you, Alder. If it wasn’t for you I think we all would have died tonight.”

“Yes, you would have become a snake stool tonight if it wasn’t for me. You need to get a good rest. Don’t worry if I had hostile intentions I don’t need to pretend.”

“I think you are right. Then I will go to sleep. Wake me up if something happens.”

He goes into his tent and soon I hear his low snoring.

“Now how about you show yourself. Mr. Shadow?”

After I said that man in black light wear appears in front of me.

“So, you noticed me, huh? After all you are dangerous man. I suppose I need to kill you to get to them, right?”

“I suppose you are right.”

“Then I will enjoy this.”

“I highly doubt that.”
