Chapter 41: Escape

Chapter 41: Escape

Shit, I can already hear the damn birds behind me now. How did they find me? Is it the fang?

“Alt, do you think they can locate the fang somehow?”

“No, they didn’t find you yet. They just split and searching you. So, don’t worry just keep running till you cross the second boundary then you will be safe.”

“But that is almost five days away. Let’s hope they can’t find me then.”

I have been running for almost two days now. Yesterday I didn’t hear the crows cawing but today I started to hear it. At least on animal makes the sound they are supposed to make here.

Thanks to my high vitality I don’t get really tired but I still conjure up my wolf to ride sometimes. But now that birds are this near I can’t summon my wolf. Since it can’t use my camouflage for some reason.

Still it is very troubling that cawing is getting closer by the minutes. I think I can kill them except patriarch and its mate. Feeling I got from them was even stronger than the giant bat.

……..

It’s been almost four days now that I managed to elude the pursuit of the crows. But I think patriarch is chasing me now. Because feeling of danger raised exponentially yesterday. And that caused me to run even faster.

Luckily, I think I’m almost at second boundary now. Since I ran like hell last few days. And it’s starting to get tiring as hell.

As I was running dark shadow flies over my and lands in front of me and looks at me. And moment later another shadow lands behind me.

So, I guess my escape come to an end here.

In front of me is the patriarch and behind is its mate. Both more than five meters tall. Still don’t know how but they are looking straight at me through my camouflage.

As I was waiting for them to strike first I suddenly starts to get dizzy. And finally notice faint green vapor in the air. As soon as I notice that I cancel my camouflage and activate my gears, getting ready for the fight.

But even after that they are not attacking me. And simply looks at the fang behind my back. I think they might let me go if I simply give the fang to them.

But do I do that. First of all, it not theirs anyway. Second of all, am I scared of them?

For some reason smile crawls up my face. And something starts to climb up from my guts. That feeling of fury, calmness and simple desire to fight. As I look at the patriarch looking down on me.

And as soon as I smiled crows start to exude hostility and killing intent. I think they felt what I felt.

“So, what are you waiting for come on then.”

As soon as I say that the patriarch takes to the sky and dives down on me. I kneel on the ground and stab my left arm into the ground and start to pump mana into my arm to make it extend and expand.

As I pump mana into my arm it starts to grow and branches out of the ground making a thorn filled wall. But as patriarch dives down on me, its breaths green stuff from its mouth and as soon as it gets in contact with my wall it starts to dissolve it.

Fuck! It’s not a poison, it’s an acid for fucks sake. Stupid fucking fox. As my wall dissolves I got no other choice but to dodge the patriarch’s charge.

As I roll to my right and manage to dodge the patriarch’s attack, female crow jumps to action and dive down on me too. But before it gets in range I summon my wolf and makes it engage the crow.

But as my wolf try to engage it, fucking crow spits acid on my wolf’s face. Since my wolf doesn’t feel anything it charges at the crow with abandon but gets interrupted by the patriarch. As it charges my wolf it slashes it into two pieces.

As I watch my wolf getting slashed I pump more mana into my wolf from far. And as I pump more mana my wolf’s two sections start to regenerate and becomes two.

As soon as they finish regenerating they start to attack the crows and distracts them as I climb the highest tree around here and get into my position.

After getting ready I jump from the tree and dives down to the patriarch from above. As I fall I start to charge my greaves and prepare to execute my second technique.

While I was falling patriarch looks behind, looks at me and instead of getting out of the way it starts to charge at me. Idiot, that hubris will be your downfall.

And our attacks meet in the middle and as I execute my second technique on its beak, it gets thrown back to the ground but I still couldn’t get the timing right this time too. Because fucking crow is still alive and my feet is broken from the backlash of leftover impact.

After the collision I got thrown upward and while falling I manage to extend my left arm to get a hold of a tree and land on its branch.

Ooh, this pain is excruciating. But I can already feel it healing. As I watch from the above my two wolves are managing to keep the female crow occupied. Patriarch is dizzy down there fumbling around.

After fumbling around for almost a minute it finally manages to orient itself by shaking its head and looks at me. During his dizziness I managed to heal my feet. Once again, we charge at each other.

Once again, I charge my greaves and prepare for my second try. This time I will get the timing right.

And once again, we meet in the middle. But this time I finally manage to get the timing of expulsion of the impact right and as all the impact gets unleased patriarch’s head starts to get crushed starting from its beak.

As I feel its life force I know that it died. And falls to the ground limp. I land next to it. So, this is how it feels to execute the second technique right. No backlash, no broken bone.

As the patriarch falls to the ground he makes a loud noise as its make hear it, it looks back and sees its mate lifeless body. As soon as it saw it, its eyes get red as blood instead of its green.

It glares at me with that eyes filled with killing intent and madness. It charges at me with wild abandon. Even if my wolves tried to stop it, their effort is virtually useless.

As soon as it got in the range it spits acid at me but before it reached me I unleash my fire breath at it. Its acid breath gets burned to nothing. But it still charges at me through my flames and pecks at me.

I try to block with my gauntlets and gets thrown back. As I hoped it would get me little bit of distance, fucking bird is still chasing me with hatred in its eyes. I hit a tree and stops. As soon as I stop it charges at me and punctures my stomach with its beak.

FUCK! That hurts. That was close it almost pierced my heart.

After puncturing my stomach, it flings me away like nothing to its right. Shit, it hurts. Even though my little tree does its best to heal me I’m still losing blood, fast.

At least during that happened my wolves manage to catch up to the crow and distracts her. But I don’t think they will last long.

DAMN IT!!!

Am I still this weak? After all this. I hoped I got even a little bit stronger. But I’m still fucking weak.

Still as I lie there bleeding something, that feeling, my primal urges start to flare up. Pushing me and my body to its limit making me stand up.

As more and more adrenaline got pumped into my blood stream, even for a moment I forget the pain in my stomach. But this time there isn’t hot red fury. There is only purpose. Purpose to kill this fucking crow and bathe in its blood. That’s it.

And as I look at it, it looks at me too. Seeing me still alive it rampages even further. Swiping my wolves away it once again, charges at me with mindless abandon.

But this time as it charges at me I unleash my fire breath before it gets into range. And while obscuring its vision I will my mana through my feet and like before with the cockatrice I will it to take a shape of spears protruding from the ground. While doing that I pump mana into my left arm to make it expand and extend in front of me.

As the crow charges through my flame it crashed into my spears. Even if my spears pierce its wings it still charges at me. After crashing through my spears, charges into my thorn wall.

But after it gets through my wall I’m no longer in front of it. I’m beneath it on the ground. As it passes over me I get a hold of its feather and stick to its belly.

After sticking to its belly, I do something I wasn’t supposed to do.

I charge my right gauntlet and prepare to execute the second technique with my right arm. As two streams of my mana spin in my arm, they tear my arm muscles apart but I simply clench my teeth and unleash the impact on the crow’s belly.

As my gauntlet contacts the crow’s underbelly the impact from the mana collision starts to wreak havoc inside its body.

I can hear its inside getting crushed. As its insides gets crushed it lets out a dying cry and falls to the ground.

Good thing I let go before it fell.
