Synopsis
Agnis, a hardworking TBM (tunnel boring machine) operator, finds himself trapped deep underground in what feels like an apocalyptic disaster. Does he realize how screwed he is when a tunnel, designed to withstand 50 years of heavy use, collapses like a paper straw? Or when he bangs his head and a holographic panel suddenly appears before him, accompanied by a chastising voice from a strange, newly unlocked system? All he can say is [redacted].
But that's just the beginning. Agnis' world turns upside down as the system offers him new abilities tied to his years of experience—at the cost of something much deeper. As he navigates the confusing interface, he starts to realize that the system isn't just changing his perception of reality. It's changing him. His mind, his instincts, even his body—everything feels... off.
And the real kicker? He might lose his humanity completely before he even reaches the surface again, both mentally and physically.
This story is born from the chaotic spaghetti of ideas in my head. It’s sat on my hard drive for a year, waiting. If you enjoy a touch of madness, a dash of dark humor, and writing that embraces the absurd, this might be for you. Disclaimer: May or may not include cringey scenarios, tropes, and shameless "yoinking" of ideas from other stories. Who knows? Maybe three random words are borrowed from Star Trek or Lord of the Rings.
