Martin is struggling to understand people, he could see their reason in their head plain as day, Their thoughts, their feelings. He knew how contradicting they are. Simpletons were the only ones true to themselves. Those that arrogantly think they are masterminds fail to see the string of others pulling them along. In the turmoil of society he has built a safe haven for himself in hopes he that can learn more. With no one's thoughts and feelings safe. There was one man without strings. A man Martin could not see through. This is a take on mind reading and altering that would hopefully be more interesting than the usual. Although mind controll is terrifying in my opinion. there is upsides that isn't as oftenly used in a lot of fiction. And another thing that isn't used as much either is the anti-vilian trope. I think these two concepts could make a wonderfully delicious story.
