For the last few weeks, green portals have been appearing all over the world. One person in their vicinity is inexorably drawn to them and enters. So far, only one person has returned from wherever the portal takes them, but they were abruptly spirited away by the government. Kyle is an office worker returning home from a vacation with his family, feeling like his life is adrift and purposeless. When he returns home, he discovers that a nosey neighbor has one of these portals in her living room that, so far, nobody has entered. So Kyle decides to go himself. But he isn't what the people there had been summoning, and gets dumped somewhere completely different and launched into a different adventure. He isn't the Hero who was summoned, and he isn't around the people who did the summoning. But he's still a Hero.
