Synopsis
Catch McCallister is drawn to a dying world by a ghostly S.O.S. signal. When she arrives on the scene, she discovers an ancient computer known as a Throne. But the Throne is not what drew Catch to this world. Rather, it was an equally ancient machine known as a Crown–a piece of jewelry that houses the Spirit of a woman who died over a million years ago.
Her name is Olivia. And there is only one thing on her mind: finish her mission; eradicate an ancient hive-mind parasite known as the Variant King who seeks to consume the galaxy. But she’s going to need a Champion.
We learn, for as long as Olivia has resided inside this Crown, she has used the power of the Omega Throne to keep the planet’s death at bay, long enough for someone to inevitably find her, and pull her from the Throne.
Finally, her Champion has arrived.
While Catch views her circumstances with a modicum of suspicion, we find that Catch’s boldness will rise to any occasion. As such, she accepts this mantle. She is eager to make up for mistakes she has made in her past. (“Besides, it could be fun!”)
As the two travel together, each grapple with their past. Olivia, betrayed by someone she loved trusts no one. And Catch–she dwells on how she failed the people on her last colony…
But at least they are not alone in their struggles, and the two will rely on each other throughout their adventure. While Catch teaches Olivia how to trust again, Olivia teaches Catch how to reconcile her failures.
Little does Catch know, the Olivia is hiding something about her past. Nothing will stop Olivia from completing her mission. No matter what it costs her. No matter what it costs anyone else…
While this novel has romance, passion, action, drama, and comedy, it is–at its heart–about friendship.
