Callum Torion was a young boy, trying to care for his family. His father, missing for weeks. His brother, struck down by a sudden sickness. Cal now lives on a ranch in the panhandle of Nebraska. He hasn't seen or heard from the stranger, only remembering him by the fact Cal isn't dead. He has lived a long time and has seen dangers, monsters, and destruction. All Cal wants is a peaceful life taking care of his ranch. When several kids showing signs of having powerful magic show up asking for his help, all Cal wants to do is send them on their way. But when the Stranger appears, calling in the favor, Callum has no choice. He has to do his best to help.
