Synopsis
Callum Torion was a young boy, trying to care for his family. His father, missing for weeks. His brother, struck down by a sudden sickness. His mother, pregnant and caring for his three younger siblings. Callum is suddenly the oldest and had to take up the slack. He struck out into the fog and hills of 13th-century Scotland, searching for his family's missing herds and his missing father. All Callum found was death on the horns of a monster. He is saved by making a deal with a mysterious stranger. All he owes is a favor, to be granted when the stranger decides.
Fast forward 800 years. Cal now lives on a ranch in the panhandle of Nebraska. He hasn't seen or heard from the stranger, only remembering him by the fact Cal isn't dead. He has lived a long time and has seen dangers, monsters, and destruction. All Cal wants is a peaceful life taking care of his ranch. When several kids showing signs of having powerful magic show up asking for his help, all Cal wants to do is send them on their way. But when the Stranger appears, calling in the favor, Callum has no choice. He has to do his best to help.
