An H.P. Lovecraft fan tries to break the doldrums of his life by hiking to the hometown of his favorite author. Providence by Halloween, that's his goal. He expects that homesickness and the rigors of physical exertion will be his greatest battles. A little adventure, sure; he can certainly use it, but mostly he looks forward to a peaceful sojourn with nature. A painful oversight leads to exciting adventures with new friends and, just maybe, the first stirrings of a blossoming romance. And, yet, as the trail continues, cracks begin to appear, allowing glimpses into the true darkness toward which he and his new allies tread.
