Lucas wakes up in a hotel room he doesn't recognize. What's worse: the hotel is empty and has been for quite some time. When he tries to leave, he winds up in an abandoned university gym. When he escapes that, he finds himself in an '80s mall, also empty. Where is he, and how will he get back home?  The Time Tunnel is a time travel story heavily inspired by The Backrooms mythos. I have a fun explanation for what's going on, so expect a payoff if you stick with it. I passed this chapter to a few friends and they told me this better not be "he's dead, he's dreaming, or he's in a coma." Don't worry, he's not. Every writer needs friends like this.
