They don't remember who they were in their past life on Earth.  Most of their personal memories are just blurs.  The first thing they really remember is talking to a deity named "Lord of the Forest" who wants them to help out the Beast people of this world.  Now, as the son of a count of a country where, by law, all beastfolk are slaves, he sets out to help where he can while not jeopardizing his own position, as it is his best bet to bring about meaningful change. Having learned alchemy and healing magic, and educating the Fox girl he rescued as a healer, he builds his own clinic to help everyone in society regardless of their status or race.  And having a Fox woman save your life certainly won't make you like beastfolk any less.
