[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] The Seraphim Covenant is a mature / adult high-fantasy novel set in a grimdark "might makes right" setting that stretches across multiple planes and explores the concept of power from different angles. The main emphasis lies on the characters, their interactions with the setting and how it affects them. It features a (dark) romantic subplot between the two MCs, which plays a central, defining role of the story. There are also soft litRPG elements and while it has a Harem Tag, neither are a focus. Polygamy and polyamory will eventually play a role. The story follows a young immortal seraphim and her mortal champion as they navigate and brave a setting where every misstep can result in their death, enslavement or worse. This story features adult and mature themes (such as torture, slavery, (sexual) abuse, power-disparity etc.) and the protagonists are neither saints nor are they immune to the way the setting works. There is occasional explicit sexual content, so if that is not your cup of tea feel free to skip this story. What to expect: A mature novel about power dynamics in a grimdark 'might makes right' setting. A pair of MCs that will grow to need each other quite literally. Developing MCs with shifting convictions, but a moral code nonetheless. Two magic systems, one of which is derived from the other. (Technically, there's an original third but it won't come into play for a long time.) A believable 'might makes right' epic fantasy setting that has been in place for centuries. The great war of old has already been fought. Soft LitRPG elements. There are classes & stats, but they're not a focus in a 'traditional' sense. Immortals, but not the cultivating type. A small cast of recurring characters. A dash of mystery. You as the reader will only know what the PoV does. Occasional explicit adult scenes, but not without taste. --- What not to expect: Overpowered, perfect MCs. MCs which are immune to the setting. MCs who can act without consequences.
