Synopsis
The people look to the skies with trepidation as the corrupt moon Arkenos approaches. No good dragons survived the last "Dark Times," so the Knights of the Silver Dragons have enslaved the remaining evil dragons and are militarizing the world of Jenoa for the coming war. Heroes will be needed. Amidst these troubles, a group of strangers come together at a desert outpost, trapped as a goblin horde seeks a long-forgotten artifact.
The Salvation of Jenoa is a home-brew D&D play-by-wiki campaign, ongoing since 2011, and is up to over 430,000 words. Think of it as a written liveplay. The DM writes the story, but at appropriate points pauses the narrative to ask for player input, dialogue, combat rolls, saving throws, and skill checks. It ends up being not quite LitRPG, not quite play-by-post, not quite collaborative writing, not quite a standard fantasy novel, and not quite choose-your-own-adventure, but certainly a cousin to all of them. The campaign began with 3.5 edition rules, though we switched to 5th edition at an opportune moment. The characters started at level 1, and are level 14 as of January 2023. Chapters of just the straight campaign text (the portions that read like a novel) will be posted on RoyalRoad each Monday. Access to the Player's Input/Dice Rolls and DM notes available through Patreon.
The World
Jenoa is a tidally locked moon with a "living" side and the "dead" side. Every 1,000 years, the dark moon Arkenos comes close enough to attack, and those “Dark Times” are nearly here! In the last Dark Times, all the metallic dragons perished. The Knights of the Silver Dragons are an order of paladins that have enslaved the remaining chromatic dragons on Jenoa and are preparing the world for the coming fight.
The Characters
Rynn Fowler (half-elf ranger). Rynn’s wife was kidnapped by bugbears. He chased them into the deadlands, and there learned to be a ranger. He now wanders the world seeking his wife, but the trail has long since gone completely cold.
Khaska (Maha’i cleric of the Dawnfather). The Maha’i (antelope-like humanoids) culture that Khaska hails from is a matriarchal one, and he seeks to earn adoption into a clan. So far he has failed at that task.
Orensland (wood elf rogue). Orensland’s dad trained him to be a criminal but was abusive. Orensland ran away and now steals from the rich to give to the poor.
Jenika (human monk). Jenika and her sister-monk, Kaylee, left their monastery to wander the world. Kaylee used her training to hurt others, and there was a fight between the two of them. Jenika knows this will eventually lead to a confrontation.
Amara Palladia (human sorceress). When she discovered her sorcerous powers, Amara was cast out of her lower noble house. She now seeks someone who can mentor her in her newfound magical abilities.
