Synopsis
Science has reigned for nearly five hundred years. But gods and dragons and other supernatural beings have had enough of lukring in unseen places.
After having reigned for thousands upon thousands of years, the appearance of the White God and his son, the Saviour himself, pushed humanity to start a war to expunge all supernatural. For fifteen centuries humanity fought and pushed the "forces of darkness" into the shadows, and, having banished most magic of any kind, an age of science had been heralded. After spreading Christian culture into many corners of the world, the old gods and myths had been but hearsay, mere tales - even if there were still fervent believers for some religions. Yet, in places unseen, gods and myths still persevered, beaten down, licking their wounds... Preparing to once again return to their glorious olden days.
And now they're finally ready.
In Windfall, Arizona, there is a little store selling antiquities, occult objects and lost-and-found items. The owner, one Ms. Cressinda Edgecombe, also known as the Ethdrahl's Witch, is a fearsome sorceress, who has after surviving the witch hunts decided to retire. Content with her business continuing lazily from day to day, she enjoys her time with alcohol, loud music, long naps and her best friend Agnes Carter, lawyer, party girl and Hindu deity.Which leaves the work for her new part-timer, Aaron Wilson, orphan and former-delinquent and born with the skill to talk with ghosts and spirits. Things don't get any easier for him, when a girl comes out of a sword and decides he is her new owner - which just pushes a series of events along, that he could have really done without...
And caught between all fronts is third-rate wizard Howard Bruckner, who is stuck with Detective Ann Linsner and the nigh-impossible task of keeping her alive - a normal human infected by society's scientific common sense and with the job of investigating supernatural crimes. What could possibly go wrong?
Inspired by Harry Dresden, Iron Druid and xxxHolic.
