Synopsis
The Large Hadron Collider, located near Geneva, Switzerland, was activated on September 10, 2008, and despite fears that it would create a black hole, the world continued as normal.
A month later, a helium leak was discovered in the collider's tunnel. Inspections were made, the problem was resolved, and the collider was reactivated at 4:00 AM Est, January 1, 2009.
Today is January 1st, 0000 AP.
